Lazy Daze Owners Emails and Notifications Set Up:

The email capability is available in the new forum.

There are multiple ways to format your profile as to notification via email. You can receive only those messages from a specific board (Lazy Daze Technical), or you can choose as many of the other boards as you want/need.

For example, if you are only interested in tech topics, then you would set your profile to receive notifications when there is a post for that board and that board only.

Here’s how:

1. Go to My Account.

2. Select drop down menu “Modify Profile” and pick “Notifications”

3. Select as below and Save Settings.

(no check) Turn topic notification “on” when you post or reply to a topic.
(check)    When sending notification on a reply or new topic, send the full text in the email.

For topics and boards I've requested notification on, notify me:
select in Drop Down Box "Instantly" or "Daily", or "Weekly"

Notify me of topics and boards I've requested notification on:
        select "All Messages”

4. Click the "Save Settings" button

5. Scroll down the page and find the area immediately below the settings, it says "You are receiving notifications on the boards shown in BOLD. Use the check boxes to turn these off or add additional boards to your notification list"

6. Then select the board(s) you would like to subscribe to and receive notification when there is a new post.  Do this by placing a check mark next to each board you are interested in, Lazy Daze Technical, Around the Campfire, Classifieds, etc.

7. Click "Update"

8. Scroll down the page again to make sure those boards are now shown in Bold letters.

9. Done ! That's it, you are now subscribed and will receive emails for all posts to those boards, you may also reply to those emails and have your response posted (not for Daily or Weekly digests though)

NOTE: You can also see if you are subscribed to a board when you view its posts listing.  Forum -> Select a board like Classifieds.  At the top of the listing it will say UNNOTIFY which indicates you are subscribed to the board.  Clicking this is just like what you above, it would "uncheck" Classifies and Update your subscriptions.  If you are not subscribed it would instead say NOTIFY, clicking that would enable your subscription to that board.

When you receive a Notification email, (whether at your PC or a mobile device) you can reply in your email system, and it will be posted to the correct Lazy Daze Owners board in which the post was originated.

After you fill in your "Signature" information in your Profile, you don't even have to sign your email reply's or online posts, as the Lazy Daze site will automatically add the signature in your profile to the message post.

Important In My Account / Account Settings, the email address you set *is* the email address to which the notification will be sent.  The system will also check against this email address when you reply via email.  If you reply from another address (e.g. the email in your account forwards to another), the system will defer posting the reply until it is verified by a Moderator.  This is a necessary Anti Spam measure.

Too bad there is no daily digest with complete posts available.

But having said that, this forum is so easy to use that I think I'll get over my desire for that.  :D

Here's an alternate way to get a digest-like summary of posts as an RSS feed:

0. Sign up for feedly -- this is an RSS aggregator that collects individual posts from blogs, websites, news feeds, forums, etc. It's free for personal use and has some nice features to organize your feeds. I used this to replace Google Reader when that was retired.

1. Navigate to the home page for Lazy Daze Owners' Forum, then copy the URL from the navigation bar to the clipboard. It should look something like this: http://www.lazydazeowners.com/index.php

2. Log into your feedly account and click Add Content.

3. Paste the URL in Step 1 into the content box. The list will populate with search results -- click either of the top two.

4. You'll get a list of recent posts. Click the green "+feedly" button to add this feed.

5. You'll be prompted to select or create a category (folder) for this feed. I have categories for "Camping", "Lazy Daze", "Blogs" etc.

6. You'll see a list of recent posts. Click one of the titles to see a summary, then click "visit website" to view the full message in the forum.

This is addicting -- you can add feeds for blogs you like so you always see the latest posts. You can also add news feeds from Google News and many other news sites. There's a search tool to discover blogs on any topic you are interested in.

There are other benefits -- The RSS feed bypasses (most of) the ads and fancy formatting on many websites that can otherwise bog down a browser, especially on a slow or metered connection. It collects all your items of interest in a single portal so you don't need to keep as many bookmarks. And, once again, it's free for individual use.

One of the first things I did.  I use Feedly a lot since Google reader disappeared.  I find it easier to read and browse than the web site.
