Smartweigh

We recently went to the Escapees North Ranch located near Congress, AZ and had our 1999 RB weighed under the Smartweigh program. They have two scales, one for each tire on an axle. They weighed the coach and the tow vehicle separately. The cost was $55.

The coach is weighed with the fuel tank full, the fresh water tank full, the holding tanks empty and the two occupants in their seats in the cab. We have the coach full with all of our clothing and gear. We have an HWH hydraulic leveling system installed and the tow bar for the car. Our tow vehicle is a 2015 Subaru Forester. We have inflatable kayaks and gear in the car and a bike rack on the rear with two mountain bikes.

The actual weights were as follows: Coach LF, 2,050 lbs, RF, 2,000 lbs, LR, 4,600 lbs, RR, 4,350 lbs. The Subaru total weight was 3,575 lbs. The actual weights are all within the GAWR allowable.

Using the actual weights, the tire pressures according to the Michelin website should be 65 psi front and 75 psi rear. This is different from the recommended pressures on coach sticker which are 70 psi front and 65 psi rear.

We rarely travel with the water tank full, so the left rear weight would generally be less than 4,600 lbs since the water tank is located on the driver's side under the couch.

I thought this might be useful information to share. It just confirms that Lazy Daze does a great job of designing and building their products. As an aside, the person who weighed our coach said that 60% of the time there is at least one tire that is overloaded when the actual weight is known. I think he was impressed that we were not up to the limits even with the full water tank.
