Hi all,

I have a iPhone 6s and I just tried the trick. I went from 4.6 GB to 5.5 GB. This is to good to be true. Let me try it again. By golly it worked again although it asked for my password and I declined the offer. I then again checked my storage space and now I have 6.0 GB storage. Now I am going to try it on my iPad air. It worked. I had 1.4 GB before the trick, now I have 1.9 GB and didn't cost me one red cent.

Oh you know I had to give it the old college try again and low and behold I have 3.1 GB storage. Thinking the third time would certainly be the charm, it wasn't. But what the hay, it was worth the try as I now have an additional 1.7 GB of storage space that cost me absolutely nothing. Thanks for the tip Ed.

I know zip about the subject, but logic tells me that "something" on your phone is likely being compressed to free up the extra space.

How will this affect your usage of the unit? Will things take a lot longer to open because they need to expand for use? Will you lose pixels in all of your photos through lossy compression? What if you use up all of the new-found space and there is then no room for needed expansion, even if you are willing to spend the extra time waiting for things to happen?

Hopefully someone with knowledge of the inner workings of these amazing devices can jump in here to say if I am being an alarmist! ;->

Judie, The cnet article said they think this process is clearing cache memory (temporary memory usage). That makes sense to me, there is a lot of programs these days that have what is called memory leaks (e.g. use it then don't release it when done with it).

We have to remember our smartphones and tablets are computers and need reboot (not just a turn off and turn on) every week or so to keep things from being tied in knots. I do the reboot regularly and will be interested if this will work for me, I will try it later and let you all know.
