I've been on VW camper forum for a long time (Wetwesties) and one of the users there created a website where people can post experiences with maintenance facilities around the country.

After struggling to find a shop on our last 3 month trip in our '01 RK, I think this might be helpful for us LD users too. I'm talking primarily about maintenance on the engine / drive train on our LDs. Maybe input on the "home" part might be nice too.? Does something like this already exist? Would it be a hard thing to do / use?

I had to contact at least 3 different facilities in the area we were located before I found someone who could / wanted to handle a motorhome. And I wasn't thrilled with the place I picked. We also had 3 flat tires, all the same tire. I'm pretty sure all problems were from lack of quality in service / knowledge / experience.

Bob,

There does exist a data base of maintenance facilities:

Maintenance/Installation FacilitiesRecommended (or panned) by group members.
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/lifewithalazydazerv/database/9/edit

The data bases can be reached from the home page of the Yahoo site: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/lifewithalazydazerv/info and the "Others" tab on the "Conversations Photos Files About More" line. The data base can be organized by state by clicking on the "State" column.

I'm not sure how much the data base is used since the reorganization of the Yahoo site made it less obvious. We will have to wait to see how the proposed new site will treat the exiting data bases or if they will exist at all in the current form or a new form.

Thanks for the direct link, Barry; Yahoo is very proficient at obfuscation!

One caveat: I suggest treating the listings as a "guide", not "gospel"; many are several years old, and while the comments, positive or otherwise, may still apply, service quality, particularly personnel, change over time. If someone uses a recommended (or panned) service, please post your updated experience.

As ever, YMMV.

Barry, we are reviewing how to move the databases/files/ etc. as I write this. Our goal for the group is to move as many as possible. There may be a few which are dated and little used that will drop off. I spent a good part of yesterday on the Foreforums website, experimenting and studying it and compiling a list of questions for Steve and Michelle. I'm hopeful it won't be too long before we make the move.

Thank you. I assume it will transfer to the new system. Maybe giving it a little visibility will get people to use / update it.

I'm looking at it on my phone but don't believe the entries have a date. I think that would be helpful. Maybe someone knows how to add a column for date of entry might do so.

Bob,

Good recommendation. I have added a Date Recommended column at the end of the table entries. Hopefully this will make the data base more useful. At least in the future you can assume that any entries with no dates were made before April, 2016.

Of course, the persons who posted the entries can add a date if they wish. (Assuming Yahoo is working OK or we get on the new forum.)
