City Water Screw-on Cap

Our '09 MB had a OEM push-in dust cover cap on the city water connection. I wanted a better cap to seal that water connection to help prevent "dribbles" or leaks if and when the check valve was slow to close. In addition, if the check valve failed completely, then I wanted sometime better that a push-in dust cover to hold back the water from the water tank. So today I installed a male screw-in plug which gives us the check valve safety feature I wanted. I posted a picture of this cap in the Photos file. The one I installed has a large O-Ring that fit over the brass female connection. Here is a picture like the one I have from a local RV store for $4.99.

Hope this helps.

Is your rig purchased from a PO? This type of cap came with our '04 and a similar one with our '83, but both have deteriorated with time. The securing band breaks, and then the cap eventually gets lost. Just another plastic replacement item.

A second follow-up. I'm thinking the PO actually switched city water caps. I had wondered why the bottom screw on the city water plate was a bit worn. I bet that bottom screw was the place to secure a cap with a small loop on the end of the retaining line. So my little bit of an improvement just brought our LD closer to factory specs! LOL

Alfred,

According to the 2015 LD owner's manual you will find the city water line connection about 1/2 way up the side of coach. Mine is on the drivers side.

Note: hooking up to city/camp water lines does not connect to your fresh water tank. It bypasses this system and therefore will not fill your fresh water tank. ALSO: You will NOT need to turn on your water pump since you are relying on water pressure supplied from the city/campground connection.

First: connect your tasteless fresh water hose to the brass water fitting on the side of your coach.

Then: connect an inline water filter to the other end of the hose (keeps debris from entering your coach water system).

Then: Connect a brass water pressure regulator after the water filter. City/campground water pressure is often higher than the 45 pounds of pressure the LD system requires and too high a pressure may damage your LD water system.

Then: Connect to the fresh water source and turn on about 1/2 way. REMEMBER: You will not be using the coach water pump so leave it off.

When you are ready to disconnect; Turn off water supply and open a faucet in the coach to depressurize the hose outside...Then disconnect from the city/campground water source and remove your water hose and accessories.

I would post a shot of the owner's manual covering this but this is not an acceptable procedure and my outline should pretty well cover it.

REMEMBER: The connection is not the one you use to fill the fresh water tank. It is completely different.

Others on the forum may be able to add other insights.

Hope this helps.

Ed,

You never know how important an issue is to a fellow forum member. I've learned from the best here at LWALD.

I imagine I even learned something new myself.
