Has anyone tried "Wipe New"?

Looking at the list of spring projects for our 2003, one of the cosmetic issues is the front bumper valance that has turned a silver/gray color. I am referring to the plastic piece that is below the chrome bumper. Our esteemed moderator told me it was because I didn't use a protectant on it; I always thought it was from all the polish I've applied to our rig washing down off the chrome bumper.

I've seen a number of commercials for a product from Rustoleum called "Wipe New" that claims to restore the original color back to oxidized surfaces. From what I've seen, it is not for painted surfaces but it looks like that front bumper valance is a great candidate. Reviews on Amazon look great too.

Since I stink a using a spray painting (I did buy a can of bumper paint but don't really want to end up with a mess), I was wondering if anyone has tried this stuff? I guess I can be a guinea pig in a couple months if nobody has tried it.

Infomercials..... I love 'em but hate to watch them!;-)

Every "paint-on" bumper treatment that I've seen deteriorates and looks bad after a while. IMO, a black-painted, patchy, peeling bumper looks worse than the "silvery" oxidation, but others probably have a different viewpoint. ;-)

I've used 303 from the beginning, and the front bumper on my 2003 still maintains its original "grey"; washing the bumper (just water or water and white vinegar; no soap or "auto shampoo"), spraying it thoroughly with 303 (sometimes two-three coats), and "scrubbing" it in "restores" the original look. Yes, the bumper does fade between treatments, but the finish can be brought back quite well with 303 and a bit of diligent work.

If a bumper is in really bad condition and heavily oxidized, a 303 and elbow grease restoration may be too late, but it might be worth a try before resorting to painting the bumper with a treatment that may look even worse (and require either a lot of work to remove or, at the least, a re-treatment) than the faded bumper after a while.

My bumper will stay un-painted, but, as ever, YMMV!

Have not seen or tried 'Wipe New' yet but from reading the manufacturer's literature, it appears to be similar to Meguiar's Ultimate Black or Mother's Back to Black.

Many have tried to paint the plastic front bumper with various degrees of success but none seem to look good for more than a year of two, at best.
The plastic was not intended to be painted, instead, it was intended to have periodic treatments with a surface coating. I have use both 'Back to Black' and 3M 303.

There are specialize automotive paints made for plastic and would be my choice if painting the bumper.
After years of using surface treatments, I would be concerned about completely cleaning the surface, allowing the paint to stick. It may not be possible, especially if any of the treatments used contained silicone, a substance that can permanently poison the porous surface.
Automotive paint stores do sell cleaners designed to remove silicone and are effective on metal but their effectiveness on plastic is unknown.

We have a maroon/cream color scheme for our 96 TK. Our bumper skirt was silver grey when we bought it 4 years ago. What color is it supposed to be? Just asking. We are fine with it the way it is.

Silver grey is a one description of the Factory color.

I have tried Macguires, Back to Black, 303, Zainos, and several others, but not Wipe New. My brother has tried everything in south Texas, and swears Wipe New is the best. I may try it. It is a paint like product. Lasts for several months in that climate. But I think once you start with it you can't stop.

--- You're right; while you *can* stop using a paint-on product after it has been applied, you'll likely be left with an unsightly bumper after the stuff weathers, fades, and peels. Then you'll have the choice of leaving the bumper ugly, re-doing the treatment (perhaps multiple times), or trying to remove the product entirely from the bumper. I'll stick with a naked bumper! ;-)
