Interior colors....

Didn't see this coming.     Options picked, no RV is perfect attitude, and ready to place my order.    I'm in MX, wife in California and she saw samples of the interior colors sent to her.    She's ''not wild'' about the colors.   I'm not wild about new exterior color style but could live with it.      Not sure what options are for interior.     Does anyone know where LD upholstery is done?     The LD Gallery is showing a MB with blue/tan-ish color in rear and we wanted it.     Todd said it was discontinued.

Rear sofas in a MB would be a lot to re-do.    Kitchen fabric easier.      Removed the valences in my '02 after we saw what Andy's LD looked like (thanks Andy).    We like the open look so that could work in a new LD.

Still, could this be a deal breaker until LD comes up with better colors?    Who picks these colors?

JMHO, but if ordering a new LD depends on a time when the factory comes up with "better colors", you may have a very long wait! If these color and design issues are critical, I understand that one is still able to get the classic paint job for extra cost, and one can always use throws in whatever fabrics, patterns, and colors one chooses to cover the furniture.

Butterfield used to do the interiors; the business closed a few years ago, and I have no idea who does LD's interiors now. (You might want to ask LD.) I do know of people who did complete interior make-overs right after taking delivery; this can be very expensive, particularly if you don't do the work yourselves. I don't know who decides on the colors and patterns, but, from what I've seen in LDs and a lot of other brands and types RVs over the years, there are quite a few manufacturers whose products are considerably higher, inside and out, than LD on the butt-ugly scale!  Personally, I'd go with the least objectionable color scheme and design and think "washable throws". ;-)

As ever, YMMV.

Ed,
Now there's a can of worms. Right? I like the valances in my '15 RB. Softens the lines and tucks the blinds away.
Adds a bit of warmth and carries the color throughout the coach. Can't really imagine the rig without them.

Then again that's just my opinion.
Heading back to Indian Cove Campground next week for some peace and quite.

I accidently deleted a previous post on this thread because I thought I'd posted it twice.  I had mentioned (quietly) that my DW doesn't like valances in any RV and I like them.  I wanted to see pictures of Andy's interior without them and found them on his website.  And ... I have not shown DW pictures of Andy's valance-less LD. It's a secret I'm taking to the grave.

I liked my valences for first 8 years then saw what Andy did.    No valences open up the space.    And it's a cleaner look.       At the gallery photos, there's a MB with the blue/tan valences (thinner, better colors than the brown I have), and it looks great -- so newer valences would probably work for me too.

Joan,

"I have no idea who does LD's interiors now."
An excellent question.  I know that Ed used to have a major hand in this.  Did he pass the responsibilities to Steve?  We have looked at some SOB's that were absolutely ugly but not as ugly as they seemed 10 years ago.  At least most of them have ditched the elaborate brass light fixtures and mirrors.  To me these looked like the "upstairs rooms at an old time western saloon."  ( I am being delicate here, but I think the point will be made.)  When we bought our SOB two years ago the only color choices were "earth tones."  We though that we would like some blues, etc. as our LD had a blue interior.  We now are quite happy with our earth tone interior.

Upgrade frenzy

Third set of photos down shows a good picture of Andy's valance free windows.

Just and opinion, but I've seen a few 2014 and 2015 models ( "brown" or blue exteriors), and with the exception of the *fabric* used on the couches/chairs/dinette, the interior décor choices seem more subdued and "understated" than in earlier years. I've heard that the upholstery fabric is not the same quality as was used when Butterfield was doing the interiors; less-tightly woven, more susceptible to wear and abrasion, and "scratchier". I believe that there's a plain color upholstery option - a khaki tan color - for the new models; is this correct?

Everyone's tastes are different; what one thinks is gorgeous makes another roll his/her eyes! I know of very few owners of any model year LD who have left the interior completely stock; tweaking/customizing the cosmetics and adding/deleting/changing features of almost every conceivable type makes the rig uniquely "yours". I'm with Doug; "earth tones" (which I call "dirt color") work!

I suggest that there are really only three viable options for "cosmetic remediation" after one buys a pre-owned rig or orders a new one, i.e., live with it, change it, or cover it up.

As ever, YMMV.

Another valence remover here. We started in 1998 with our Bigfoot camper, and this is a mod we do with each RV we acquire, "first thing". Without doubt, the valences on the LD are the best construction. They weight savings frees up CCC for a couple of bottles of wine or whiskey, the added light reduces the hours we need to use artificial lighting. It's an environmental imperative!

Our blue '92 is well preserved, even the shag carpet. One day it's gonna go, but in the meantime we get a curious pleasure when in our time cocoon.

Our last TT was modern and as custom as the available Forest River design materials would allow. It took two years to wear on us with the cheap quality, scratchy upholstery, and worn wood finishes. This LD just puts a silly smile on our faces.

One of the reasons I love Lazy Dazes is the huge windows, and in the case of the Twin/King and Midbath models I've owned, the panoramic view in the rear. That's why I removed the valances from both my rigs: to open up the view. So it's ironic that after almost ten years without valances, I'm now planning to add them to most of my windows.

I hasten to say that they will be minimal: just thin strips of 1/4" x 5" wood, finished to match the rig's "golden pecan" interior... and only at the tops of the windows, not the sides or corners.

The reason is not that I've suddenly fallen in love with the idea of big upholstered planks encroaching on my windows. Rather, it's that the double rollers of my new MCD day/night shades hang down 4.5", and I'd like to hide those "guts" from view. But I haven't changed my basic aim: to minimize the window trim and maximize my view of the great outdoors. That's what windows are for, after all. :-)

Andy, was it you who said you were not totally pleased with the MCD shades? If so, why not? I may have read this on someone else's blog.

Another thought occurs, we have been replacing the gold trim with silver as we repair, replace, upgrade. Removing valences helped with this too. All thats left is a few knobs and the classics- Dometic fridge, hygrometer in the monitor panel. This has helped the blue be a little more contemporary. As well as a big throw over the couch.

My wife thought re-upholstery was a good idea, until we got a price for a comparable job. She may still stitch up some simple slip covers of cotton sheeting to make cleaning easy. We would have replaced the curtains by now, but haven't found a decent alternative yet. A custom remake was laughably expensive.

One thing thats not going away- the acrylic knobs on the mirror/wardrobe. I just replaced one, and have a spare. Need to have something to remind us of disco.

"Liberace's Bathroom" is the decorating style I associate with most SOBs. "MicroMcMansion" would be another apt descriptor that's still PC enough to use in public.
I really really like the look of my 2015 TK interior. It's practical, easy to maintain and keep clean, and rock-solid to boot.

This discussion made me go to the MS website to take a look at the current state of the decor. It seems that what my wife tells me is confirmed. I have no taste. I like what I see. Except the new exterior. The world of RVs needs a moratorium on swoops. The (parsimonious) photos of the 27MB interior look clean, appealing, practical, and not crazy. If this is the 80's. I musta missed more than I thought. I was expecting mauve, padded shoulders, unconstructed linen jackets with sleeves rolled up and blow dried hair. Or was that the 90's? After monster bells and flowered shirts, it was all down hill to me.

Anyway, I am looking forward to our next trip south, gonna finally make it to the MS, I hope, check it out in person, and pass on my compliments for making a motor home with character and quality, if not Architectural Digest class.

Hello, I am not sure where you are with the ordering process but I thought I would tell you what we have done regarding our ugly upholstery.  We have had our 03MB, 26 for over ten years.  I hated the ugly fabric, and it was also not cozy.  I promptly ordered polartec fleece from Mill direct in Mass.  This is the same fleece used by L.L. Bean.  I made covers for all cushions, in the style of a fitted sheet.  We used a nice beige (green rig) and change up throw pillow for a pop of color.  The slip covers are easy to put on and take off and quick to wash and dry.  They are also moisture wicking and soft.  We finally wore out the first set after 10 years and I just ordered another 13 yards for under 160.00.  This also keeps the original cushions clean.  I agree, since LD is in CA, you would think they could find an interior design consultant.  Sharon
