Campgrounds in area December 18, 2015, 05:21:50 pm Yahoo Message Number: 157671Hi, My wife and I are hoping to pickup our new LD next December and plan on spending 2-3 weeks in the area before heading east to Florida. We are looking for ideas on nice campgrounds to stay at, Pacific coast if possible, where we can enjoy some of California's beauty during our shake down. This hopefully will be our last winter in New York. Thank. Bev and Tim Reilly

One of the best parks on the coast I have been to is Morro Bay. The coastal drive is beautiful but that will not be an ideal time of year for it. Have you considered camping a little inland? Borrego Desert is a good place that time of year. Death Valley is another. It will be warmer to camp in Southern California.bobmoore14

Sounds like you can do a lot of planning in a year's time!; get out those maps!!Born, raised and having spent a lifetime on the CA Coast, I can highly recommend the Coast in the Winter: no crowds, no fog, state parks go off the reservation system; if it's not raining, the Coast in Winter is the state's best kept secret. Keeping it simple, from the factory, you could start in Santa Monica/Malibu or further north, and take The Great One, Highway 1 (not 101) for the most beautiful, breath-taking experience the state has to offer, bar none.Highway One takes you into Oregon and beyond, but you can head east whenever you timing dictates. The section between Morro Bay and Monterey, commonly known as the Big Sur Coast, is particularly exquisite. There is a wide array of camping choices, interesting towns, great food and wine, museums and many, many attractions (including two elephant seal rookeries) along the way.
