My 2003 RB owners manual says I should be able to remove the screens from the 14"x 14" Jensen vents (I guess they are the ones that are not "Fantastic Vent" or the big one in the cab over bed.  Mine have caulking which would have to be removed to clean or replace the screen.  Maybe this was added after manufacture?

Has anyone ever replaced the one in the bathroom with a Fantastic Vent?  The opening in the roof looks about the same size and there is a 12 Volt fan there so there is power.

I also have a 2003 RB and tried to remove the screens for cleaning and, like you, found them to be "caulked" in. So I just replaced the screws I had removed from the frame and said #@$%%$@....

I replaced the OEM bathroom vent with a Fantastic Vent in our 2002 MB after the fan died.  It was a pretty straightforward project.   Both use a standard 14" square opening.

Jay, Larry Wade can answer this. He replaced the cheesy fan in my bathroom with a Fantastic Fan. It moves so much more air. When I am boondocking in the desert I put the fan on exhaust and the one over dinette on intake. Moves a lot of air thru the coach and cools things down.

Oh  BTW does anyone have a good biscuits and gravy recipe? I have volunteered to help cook a Christmas dinner at a seniors center. I thought it would be a nice touch.

Good for you for volunteering, Bob. But don't you think those seniors would rather have a nice kale salad rather than biscuits and gravy?

Salads are good....for rabbits.

Some old folks like something with substance. I found a prime rib that will fit in my LD oven. I'll sear it first in garlic and onions, then roast it for a few hours and add some saffron and salt at the end. Maybe a few peppercorns ground up. Then it goes to the senior center. I will enjoy a glass of wine in my LD thinking about them eating it. The rewards to giving are endless.

replaced the OEM bathroom vent with a Fantastic Vent ---

My rig was at the factory a few years ago for something - can't remember what - and Vince's elves replaced the OEM FF in the bath with what is now labeled a model 1250 :

If doing a DIY replacement, be sure not to overtighten the screws in the corners of the housing or you'll end up with "self-detaching corner pieces" that break away from the screws and have to glued back on!

Chris--giant, guffawing LOL!  Thx for such a daybrightener...though, it does occur to me that Sr. Citizens ain't what they used to be.

One Tuesday about six years ago the little HS girl running the checkout in our smalltown grocery asked, "Excuse me, please don't be offended, ma'am, but do you get the Sr discount?"  I said I didn't think so..."don't you have to be 60 or 65?"  "Oh, no ma'am...it's 55."  (I seem to notice a lot more "ma'am"s than in days of yore.)  I did a little dance & said "sign me up!"  At 61 the highlight of my weekly shopping is reminding the clerk, "Don't forget to give me my old lady discount" for 5% off the total.  A couple of years back my 90-yr-old neighbor was laughing as he told me he'd just heard from his former neighbor, who'd gotten a new chainsaw...she was 80  (I hope hers was better than my Craftsman, which is a pain to start).

With apologies to Helen Reddy (1941-) & Dylan Thomas (1914-1953), [We are Boomers] "Hear us roar"  for we shall "...not go gentle into that good night."  ...so I'll take my biscuits & gravy with a side of kale salad.  : > )

Well I did get a good recipe for biscuits and gravy, from Ina Garten's website. That women can cook. Her recipes for stew are to die for. A good thing for the RV.er.

I have a 92 RB and I lost the cover of my back vent while driving (OOPS! forgot to put it down).  I replaced it with a Fantastic Fan and love it.

IMO Fantastic Fan not only makes a great product, but the customer service is excellent. Shortly after getting my LD there was a minor problem with the lower section of the fan assembly. I called them about it and 2 days later received an entire new assembly no charge. The fan was years out of warranty but they never mentioned that. Now I hear they have been purchased by Camco. I hope things don't change for the worse.

Fantastic Fan, aka Fantastic Vent, was bought by Atwood Mobile Products, LLC, in 2010; AFAIK, Atwood still owns FF. As to FF's current level of customer service, I can't say; haven't dealt directly with them since the change of ownership.

Jim, If you put one in your bathroom you might like it. I used the cheap model without the thermostat in the bathroom and use it as a puller fan with the one in the rear set on intake. Running them in tandem I can move lots of air thru the coach. I do this sometimes while burning a lavender scented candle. Makes things smell great. Or you can have both on exhaust with escape hatch partially open like when cooking in the oven on warm days. They provide flexibility.

Joan, Thank you for setting me and the record straight. You are like a constantly updated set of memory banks. I don't know how you do it. Ever considered running for President?

Would love to install fan in rear vent. Is electric available already there ??   Thanks JJ & The Queen.

What floorplan and year?

Note there is electric there if you already have a small fan in the vent, but the FF takes more current than is advisable for the wiring. Usually you can snake a tap over to an adjacent ceiling light.

Jack, In my case my LD had a fantastic fan installed in the rear vent when I bought it. I don't know if it was factory installed but suspect it was. It was old and hurting thus the replacement.

If you are unsure whether power is available there call the factory and give them year and model. They will know. Vince always seems to know and he is easy to work with.

The bathrooms of all models I have seen have power for the wimpy factory fan installed there. The opening fits a fantastic fan and this is a good upgrade. Kind of like a house where there's a fan in the bathroom. When I was a kid living in a stick house my Dad used to smoke in the bathroom while reading magazines. There was only a vent. I used my paper route money to have an A.C. fan installed there and in his Six Pac camper. Since I dislike the smell of tobacco I fell in love with the fantastic fan.

I have an '05 Mid Bath. A Fantastic Fan (exhaust only model) in the bathroom was offered as an option that year (I think) and it was installed by the factory.

In contrast to owners of older LD's who remove their swamp coolers, I installed one on Yonder. As the whole front of the motor home roof is covered with solar panels (400 watts), that left only the rear Fantastic Fan location (the one between the rear couches) as the location for the new Turbo-Kool.

The plan was to remove the rear Fantastic and install it in place of the forward escape hatch. This would solve two problems at once. Since we boondock almost exclusively and live in the high desert, it would allow cooling without running the air conditioner and generator. Having a Fantastic Fan up forward would add power ventilation (either intake or exhaust) up forward were only passive ventilation existed - handy for clearing the kitchen of burnt toast smoke. It also will draw cool air from the Turbo-Kool full length of the coach and adds to the intake capability of the swamp cooler by exhausting hot air up forward.

An aluminum covered plywood "plug" with standard 14" x 14" opening was used to fill in the escape hatch. Power for the Fantastic Fan was obtained from the bunk overhead light - a long 1/4" drill was drilled through the interior roof bracing and the power wire fished through.

Water for the Turbo-Kook was taped from the cold water line at the back of the shower via the access panel at the end of the driver side couch. A hole was drilled in the vent pipe at the same location to allow the new 1/4" water line to be routed via the vent up to the roof.

Altogether a nice mod for those who boondock or just want the retro convenience of a Turbo-Kool. Sometimes old is better. Or at least it gives one an excuse to take a daytime nap.
