Alaska...tow or no? November 29, 2015, 07:36:02 pm Yahoo Message Number: 157294We're planning an Alaska trip and we're wondering if we should tow our CR-V up there or not? The other option would be to rent a car once we get there. We will be spending about a month on the Kenai Peninsula then up to Denali (we realize you can't drive in that park) and then other stops.Has anyone been up there? What would you do?

We stayed in Denali at the camp that allows you to drive in and stay about thirty (?) miles in. We took several bus rides from there. We spent three weeks on the Kenai, partly in Seward and a week in Homer and a couple days in Soldotna. We stayed at a few other places on the Kenai that I can't remember right now. Homer has a free trolley that takes you out to The Spit. We also visited Hope on our way out. There's a great state park there. We spent time in Valdez and Haines as well. We walked a lot or took the rig. The only time we wished we had the Jeep was at the Wrangle Elias National Park. We had to turn around before McCarthy since the road was recommended for four wheel drive. We took the trip to Dawson City and across to Chicken and Fairbanks before going to Denali as well. So for us not having a tow vehicle wasn't a problem.Larry & Kathy Monument , CO

Basically, we did "the loop" counterclockwise, i.e., the Alaska Highway, then to Fairbanks, Denali, Kenai Penn. and it's towns, Anchorage, Valdez, Haines, to the Alaska Marine Ferry System. Did not ever feel a need for a toad. Rented a car for one day in Fairbanks to drive out to where the asphalt ends. Have fun planning and enjoy your trip.
