Married Couple Question - Traveling Alone

I met a married couple who had a RV and usually they traveled together on their trips.  However, from time to time, he would take the motorhome and go on some shorter trips for fishing or whatever by himself.  (He never did this for a work related project.)  Years ago, I had a 23' sailboat on Lake Superior and I made a few short trips by myself which I enjoyed very much.   So I've been thinking about that from time to time in recent months.

I'd be interested if anyone here has done that?  And if so, how did you manage to "coordinate" or otherwise plan that with your spouse?  I certainly look forward to hearing from anyone about their experiences.

I have been on short trips in the LD sans wife and a few longer trips when she has traveled with girlfriends to places I was not interested in visiting. I take the dogs and we walk/hike and just plain veg out, and I watch a favorite TV series on DVD. No coordination involved. After 52 years of marriage, neither of us is "on the hunt".

I am retired, and my wife is not.  I do many trips solo. Some for only a weekend, others up to a month.
I encourage her water aerobics (her hobby) and she encourages my camping and photography. She loves going out on short trips when her schedule allows, but if we only went on trips together we would be limited to less than 12 nights a year. We're very happy. I also work hard to make the trips extra nice for her when we go together.
We were both older when we got married.   So what works for us may not work for others.

This half-baked idea is encouraging. In addition, this strategy might help us with our on-going two-fold challenge.  We are responsible for our sister-in-law who has Parkinson's disease with dementia and who lives near us in an Assisted Living Center.  We also provide day care for our granddaughter before and after school. As some of you already know, these are nearly full-time jobs.  So when we plan a trip, it nearly takes the planning of a D-Day invasion.

So now I'm thinking about making the first part of long trips by myself and then meeting DW at the halfway point to start the trip back home.  For example, I might try to make a fast drive to places like Seattle and such and then meet my wife in Seattle for a slower trip back home.  The first part of the drive would just be a delivery trip and it reduces the amount of time we're gone while still giving us a chance to have a one-way adventure.  Just half-baked ideas based on the experiences of others.  And so it goes.

Ed, This Thanksgiving my wife, daughter and I along with our two dogs are driving to Edisto Beach State Park in SC to meet my sister and her husband. Gina (wife) and Danielle (daughter) will leave Saturday. I will return home late Monday or Tuesday.  That will give me a day to play photographer.

We do this a bunch.  The most common example; Danielle is in grad school at UVA.  I will drive the camper to a campground near the school and set up camp on a Thursday.  Gina will meet me there over the weekend.  The dogs can stay at Danielle's apartment or in the RV while  we can explore wineries or Charlottesville Va sights in Gina's or Danielle's car.  Gina does not need to pack before she leaves home as all her stuff is in the RV.  Very stress free for her, just a nice drive through the country.  By leaving early and coming home late I dodge Washington DC weekend and commuter traffic.
