My only suggestion would be to call the Lazy Daze Factory and see if they have anything on file or otherwise available.  If you decide to call the factory, you might ask them which years of Lazy Dazy are similar to your 1985.  It could be that a LD manual from an earlier or later model year might cover your coach?

If I had one, I'd get Office Depot to make a copy and mail it to you, but my manual would not help you.

Many years ago, the Forum tried to get permission from LD to copy yearly revisions and have them available for used owners looking for missing copies of the Owner's Manual.
LD refused and reminded us that it is copyrighted material.

Don't know if LD sells old manuals but there are many of them out there.
Maybe a Forum member, with an older LD, will copy or scan their manual for you.
A manual a couple years newer or older will contain almost identical information, there were not a lot of changes during that time period, in the coach.

On another note, finding a Factory Service Manual for the Chevy G-30 chassis would also be a good find.
Very few mechanics out there today who have worked vehicles that old, especially the carburetor and primative emission system.
I do not miss our old 1983 LD's Quadrajet carburetor in the least, being one of hardest carbs to work on and calibrate.

In love with port fuel injection.

Thank you Larry.  I have contacted them.  They don't have anything for this year or should I say this old

I wonder if the factory would allow copies of LD manual that are of a certain vintage or for manuals that are out of print?  I could see that those would be invaluable to good many folks.  However, I would not presume to make the call to the factory as I have no standing regarding this matter.

I don't understand the factory mindset on not allowing copies of the older manuals. I would think an owner with the proper manual would be empowered to maintain the rig better, and the brands image would only be improved. If anyone needs a copy of the 2001 manual I would be glad to offer it.

That's true, Fred, but vigorous enforcement means prosecuting violators--not hiding your intellectual property from the world altogether, which is essentially what LD is doing. For example, every camera, computer, and other consumer electronics device I've bought in the past ten years or more has had its user manual available in PDF format online. (In many cases I've downloaded and read the manual before purchasing the device, in order to know exactly what its features and specs were.) If companies such as Canon, Panasonic, et al., aren't worried about their online manuals being pirated or misused, the I don't see why Lazy Daze needs to be.

When I contacted them a few years ago, Steve Newton told me that he was OK with individual owners making copies of the manual for other owners, but he didn't want even older versions of the manual posted online where the whole world can see them.

I think this policy is unfortunate and unnecessary--many other manufacturers post their owner's manuals online--but that's the way it is.

Andy,

I don't disagree with you at all. The manuals you downloaded were from the manufacturer's sites and probably contained Copyright statements within them. LD doesn't have such a site now; does it? I think LD folks are just following some lawyer's sage advise! Silly as it may seem.

They have a website, and they have the ability to publish PDFs to that website--their spec sheet testifies to that. (Although oddly enough, the spec sheet contains no copyright notice. ;-)

So I can't see any technical or legal reason why they couldn't publish PDF manuals for their older models if they wanted to. They just don't want to, unfortunately.

Years ago I asked Steve about publishing the OMs on the forum.
He said that the LD Owners Manual is the best in the industry and he didn't want them falling into the wrong hands.
While I'm sure that the "enemy" has already acquired a copy, he was very adamant about about it, so the discusion ended.
Enough said.

"Best in the industry" well there lies a shotgun statement that really needs a caveat of ymmv
A schematic is found with old Winnebagos. I have yet to see LD willing to draw one on any model or year they made.

On the other hand some of there written word is useful. But best?!?

"Born Free RV manuals are online..."

--- Yes, Born Free manuals are available in PDFs; they are clear and comprehensive and appear to be very convenient sources of essential information for owners of BFs. But, LD manuals are not online or available in print form from the factory (except when one buys a new LD), and I doubt they ever will be.

I believe that Steve does consider the material in the manual to be "proprietary", but, frankly, I think that at least *part* of the problem of not having the manuals available in PDFs online is a personnel issue, i.e., scanning and posting rig manuals from 57 years of production (if indeed manuals were provided in the early years of LD production?) is a big, time-consuming job, and, from what I've observed, LD's few office employees already wear multiple "hats", and the "scan and post" hat is likely a very low priority.

LD owners missing the manual have to wing it or rely on "the kindness of strangers". Fortunately, these are in good supply on the message board. ;-)

As ever, YMMV.

They could crowd source it. It worked for the data backlog on the SETI project.
But what LD owner would go to the effort of scanning in their manual? Joel =========>>> snipped ....

For what it's worth, I've uploaded a partial manual for a 1997 mid-bath to the "Lazy Daze Information" files area. It's missing Chapters 15 (Repairs and Limited Warranties) and 16 (Diagrams). I believe I have the raw materials to include these chapters at a later time.
It did take quite a while to scan and convert the manual to a searchable PDF, while maintaining as much of the page formatting as possible.
I could find no copyright or proprietary markings on the pages of the manual. If the moderators feel that I should not have posted the file, by all means feels free to delete it.

To respect Lazy Daze, Inc.'s wishes not to publish Lazy Daze manuals, I will delete this manual, Mark. But thanks for your consideration. This topic comes up every couple of years or so and it winds up that the solution to the search for a particular manual is for someone to request it on this forum and one of our members usually volunteers to copy his/her manual for the requester. This process is a sharing event between private parties and should not violate the directions received from Lazy Daze. I hope we can put this topic to rest for now.
