Atwood WH Drain Plug October 14, 2015, 11:59:22 am Yahoo Message Number: 156373My adjustable wrenches aren't working because of the tight space. So I need to buy either a 15/16" regular socket, flex socket, or box end wrench for the drain plug. Are these three (3) tools about equal or is one a bit better to use in that tight space? Thanks in advance.Ed & Margee Fort Worth
Re: Atwood WH Drain Plug Reply #1 – October 14, 2015, 12:27:35 pm Yahoo Message Number: 156374I would buy a regular socket. I would also get a few extra drain plugs for future use. They are cheap.Glen

Re: Atwood WH Drain Plug Reply #3 – October 14, 2015, 02:04:49 pm Yahoo Message Number: 156387I have used an open end wrench, socket with a mid length (4 or 5 inches) extension, and a set of channel locks on the drain plug. The best solution is the socket. I am about to buy one (a socket) just for the job to keep with the extra drain plugs so it is always clean and there when I want to do the job.The channel locks were the worst for the job, but there was a freeze coming on. Even taking care they really buggered up the head of the plastic plug. The plug is not so deformed that it couldn't be reused, but it does make a good example of why one should not use pliers or the like to do this kind of job.

Re: Atwood WH Drain Plug Reply #6 – October 15, 2015, 06:19:37 am Yahoo Message Number: 156399if you happen to carry a truck size lug nut star wrench, one of it's ends fits perfectly. The socket and extension is the right way to do it, but in a pinch a 4-way truck lug wrench also works and won't mess up the plug head.I also use a Sharpie to write the socket size inside the access door so I don't have to think about it next time.Lori Y 2011 24FL
