Our Lazy Daze "To-Do" List

Six months ago, Margee and I started to learn and work on our Lazy Daze. The work consisted of preventive maintenance and maintenance on all the items listed in the LD Owner's Manual and the Ford Owner's Manual. We made a good many smaller upgrades and replaced some other items so that the 27' would work for us as we made local trips to area State Parks. We've kept a list of our 86 projects for future reference. And the good news for us is the "To-Do" list is almost empty for the first since last September.

I've given up trying to get the black tank sensors to work despite trying every remedy I found in North America. Our rear window on the passenger side is missing a 1" piece of the plastic stripping next to the outside window. (I've covered the gap with a piece of all weather tape until I can find a matching piece). The driver's side wheel shirt has a 3" vertical crack which I can't repair. The city water check valve dribbles water from time to time which probably needs replacement. (In the meantime, I'm using a plastic screw-in plug with plumber's tape to control the dribbles.)

Several of the basement door latches are sprung and need replacement. While those latches are screwed into the wood framing, the material between the latch and side of the LD must be the same stuff used to hold the glass handles on the closet. So far I haven't been able to remove and replace those sprung latches.

Someday, I'd like to find a better solution for the spare tire. I'd still like to replace the BR faucet, but DW suggests we wait since it works perfectly. We might like to replace the carpet in the lounge.

This long and sometimes tedious process has been slow but we've learned a great deal. Our 27' MB is proving to be perfect for us with more storage than we use right now. And finally, in about 4 weeks we're on the road for 6-7 weeks! We're mighty excited for sure.

Having an old LD we understand. Fortunately the son of the owner was the head mechanic of the ford dealership. He was a plumber and she was ocd. We bought the rig based on trust.
After our first trip to Florida, we realized or lifestyle requires a couple of items: 1. To get out of the Verizon group plan we are locked into until late Sept. 2. Get a satellite dish with a traveling plan without which you cannot watch local shows, you know. ...abc, nbc, cbs, pbs. We learned out east there often aren't any working cable or antenna at many campgrounds and most state parks. We really like our tv shows!
3.we gotta have grey water tell tales. We had them them, then we don't. We hope to get this resolved in Moab. UT. We have some "STUFF". Ya know what I mean? Just need the time and travel conditions to do it. They are both coming up soon!
4. Finally after 3 months of traveling without a toad, we ended up getting a second hand car caddy. Our Toyota cannot be towed 4 wheels down. It's not a burden to tow but it has its moments. The rewards are not having to unhook to drive the frequent 30 to 60 min trips to get groceries and meds.

Most places out east you can get the networks off of your over the air antenna. I often have in excess of 30 channels including sub channels on the the little roof antenna.

Ed, I too have an older MB.

With respect to the spare: I have seen post on this and other forums where people have installed the spare on the front of the RV. So far people are reporting no over heating issues. This might be a solution for me on the east coast with few long grades to climb.

I'm another one that has given up on the black tank sensors. They come to life every once in a while but I think at some point I will have to install See Level gauges (see: http://www.andybaird.com/travels/skylarking/improvements/gauges.htm ) for long trips. Luckily the original owner of my RV did not order the insulated holding tanks.

About the gap on the passenger side back window trim. Can you post a picture? With the part I am thinking of is a soft plastic trim peace that is long and goes most of the way around the exterior of the rear most window. There has always been a gap with this part. I think is more a dust cover to keep out plant life. It deflects some rain but the primary purpose seems to cover and protect the window frame's rain gutter. I remove the trim when I clean the out side to make sure the gutters and scuppers are clear then reinstall it.

A boat shop or Corvette body shop may be able to repair the cracked wheel skirt. I remember a really good review by someone on the board here about repairing fiberglass cracks in the wheel skirts. I did a search but was not using the correct key words so I could not find it. Perhaps one of the long term members of the forum can do better.

Hello John.

You described the gap in the back window trim perfectly. It's the piece that goes all the way around except for that 1"? So this gap is "purposeful?" How about that! I guess I'll try to remove that piece and see what gunk I can find and clean it. And I will certainly take a picture of it and post it in the photo files within a day or so.

Btw, I've used some liquid nail on the back side of the skirt crack and that seems to have helped it. At the least, it's not growing. I plan to ask the Factory for help on this crack next year, along with a few other minor adjustments. And many thanks for your explanation on the trim gap!

John we went from 4 working sensors (the grey never worked) to maybe one, with more money we got 2 to 3 sensors. We stilldon'thavefreshwager tell tale. We do have black. We always had black. Oh this is with the See Level system. A combination of poor installation and wrong parts. At one point we had to go thru all November with no hot water because we lost that function also.
Putting water in the grey tank forced interesting leafy type debris telling us that the bottom of that tank is coated and neither the original tell tales nor the see levels will work. Tomorrow we are putting the happy camper grunge eater into the grey water tank and drive to Moab. That should be twisty enough for the mfgr. We were told if that stuff won't work the only solution is a replacement tank. I really really hate grey water backing up into my bath tub! Regarding tv through the antenna. I suspect our problem is that we stay in state parks that are way out in the boonies. Some private parks are just as bad. We traveled up and down the east coast full time for over a year. Not a pretty picture especially for nbc, the station we watch the most! It depends where you go, I guess, but we have had no trouble yet other than wind with our portable satellite on the west coast mountain area.
