'87 22' Multi Plan with blown engine June 16, 2015, 08:23:31 pm Yahoo Message Number: 153365During our last run from California to Denver, my little 350 blew a head gasket in Kingman, Arizona and after teardown has two pistons with holes. All from a popped fan belt. She now sits without an engine but lots of new parts. I had just purchased six 16.5 tires, new shocks and a rear brake job before leaving Huntington Beach the first of June. I've also replaced the A/C unit last year, installed a new Dino board in the refer, and just had the Turbo 400 transmission rebuilt less than 5 months ago by a quality shop in Westminster, California. The 3000w Onan has less than 150 hours on it.I've decided not to rebuild and was thinking someone might be interested in the coach for parts or as a project. If there is little or no coach deterioration, you might reconsider the rebuild, if you are happy with the floorplan. The MP is a rather rare and in-demand model these days, so even if you don't keep it, you may be able to more than recoup the $5K or so the new crate engine R&R will cost. Other things to check with the old Chevy though are the steering linkage, driveshaft bearing, etc.Steve

Unfortunately, the Chevy 350 V8's multiple belts are a serious weak point. I had to have my '85 Lazy Daze towed three times, and in each case the problem was a broken belt. My rig's breakdowns weren't quite as severe as yours, but a failed belt on one of those old engines can cause an amazingly expensive amount of "collateral damage."Andy Baird
