Close Call!

I want to let everyone know about our close call. A large cloud of gray smoke came out of our 7300 converter charger Friday evening. I turned off the aircon and immediately turned off the 30 amp breaker at the power pole.
I was able to schedule an appointment with a mobile RV repair service for the next day. I expected to have to replace the converter but the tech found burnt wiring caused by a loose wire nut connecting the shore power to the transfer switch wire. The connection is behind the circuit breaker panel where the breakers are housed. The was enough wire on both ends to remove the burnt areas and wire nut then back together.
It was apparent that work had been done in this area since our MH left the factory in 2006. Two different sheet metal screws held the panel cover on and the ground wires were nutted together instead of attached to the ground buss bar. Also found many of the screws that secure ground wires to the buss to be loose.
Loose wire nuts coupled with heavy aircon use could have been much worse than smoke and a bad smell had we not been there to catch it.
