While cleaning out some of our stuff, I came across a couple pictures we had acquired of early Lazy Daze Caravans where they really caravaned!  I scanned them and put them in an album on this site.  Feel free to add any caravan images you wish to add.

The photo on the right looks like Afton Canyon, off I-15, east of Barstow.
The rear LD is at least an 1984 or newer model.
Back when boondocking, with large groups, was still legal.

Before inventing the Class-C motorhome, LD produced pickup campers.
I have never seen one in person.

Nice pictures.  Brings back memories of my parents first camper, I guess a class C, built on the 64 or 65 Ford Camper Special.  The pickup bed was replaced by the house part. Much like the third or fourth camper in the pictured line up. My memories of that camper was a big part of the LD purchase.

Larry, good eyes!  Yes that was a caravan led by Don Nelson and they stopped in Afton Canyon.

I have never seen a LD slide in camper either, but according to Ed they built a lot of them.  There are pictures of their campers above the front window of the mothership.  When I went to buy my LD in 2004 I owned a truck & camper.  I think that I spent an hour discussing truck campers with Ed before we got down to discussing motorhomes.

Art,
Thanks for taking the time to share those wonderful pics.  My wife and I love vintage rvs especially LDs.

One would think considering how many were built that one would show up for sale now and then on a SoCal Craigslist.

Many years ago while off-roading in Saline Valley I saw a Lazy Daze camper on a Chevy truck. It wasn't like the Motor Homes at all. Built with corrugated aluminum siding it looked like any other truck camper. I never got to speak to the owner, to me it was just another camper like the Lance I had on my Ford truck. Probably better quality.
