did it..got my 'new to me' possible toad!
Yahoo Message Number: 152696
Bought the '98 Outback..it passed the mechanic's inspection with flying colors. Now to decide what/how to tow...trailer, dolly or flat tow...and remember how top drive a stick shift!!
Have been reading all I can find in the Yahoo archives, and on the Escapees forums.
Noted on Andy's concerning tow height of where the base plate goes, and how it mates to the RV..has anyone on the list set up an Outback to tow? If so, what is it?

Dimensions: Ground clearance: 7.3 Overall length:184.5 Wheelbase;103.5 Height:60.3 (with roof rack) Brakes: 4 channel Anti-Lock Brakes with  heavy duty 10.7" vented front disk with Dual Caliper Pistons that allow a larger brake pad to be used. 10.5" rear disk

Any shared experience appreciated...lots of question to answer soon.
Anyone interested in a 2005 Kia Sedona EX mini van w/91,000 miles....:-)

Gini, Congrats on the new to you car.
If Larry, Andy, Joan or one of the regulars say something different than me believe them not me.  I am a few steps behind you looking for a system.
If you goto the Blue Ox web site and look up the base plate for your car (I think this is it, but could be wrong) you see the term "tab height".   In the case of the base plate I picked for an example the tab height is 14 inches.  I called the toll free number and they to measure the distance from the top of the receiver on your RV to the ground.  The Blue Ox rep said If the two numbers are within 3 inches you should be good for most Blue Ox systems.  If the numbers are are more than that you will need an something to adapt the height. I would assume the manufactures of other tow systems will state their "tab height" and each should know the  tolerance  for their systems somewhere in the spec.  It is probably best to measure the RV's hitch when loaded and empty to have an idea if there is any range to worry about.  Use the numbers that have the greatest (worse case) difference.

So to pick out a tow system you need to get the measurement for the receiver so you can compare the heights to find the one that best suits your needs.

By the way, do not take it on bible that this is the correct baseplate for your car.  You said Outback and the only listing was for an Impreza Outback Sport.  The phone number is at the top of the webpage and guy who answered was very helpful.  Baseplates and accessories for every make and model
