you might want to call the mother ship about this.  I have heard of people converting the sleeping area into storage, but sometime in the deep past I think I heard caution flags sent about converting a storage area to sleeping area. I can not find the post. It may been some other RV (aka SOB).  Something about foundation over the cab.  I don't find the lack of side windows much a big deal (wish I did not have them).  But the concern is  the supporting structure would support the weight of one or two humans and their stuff.  Not static weight but people tossing and turning and moving.  So that sometimes there is a lot of weight in one spot and not spread about a large area.

I called a few weeks ago and asked that very question. I was looking at a nice used rig that needed extra sleeping space rather that the entertainment center.  The answer I got was short and sweet, "forget it, can't be done".  So I took their advice and "forgot it"!

"Has anyone converted the over the cab console to a sleeping area?  this is a mid 26.5 floor plan."

Never seen it done but it possibly could be done. It would be a lot of work to make it useful and decent looking, a project I would  try to talk you out of.
Realize that the entertainment center's cabinet is very well installed and will not come out intact, instead it will need to be cut and broken up into scrap. Once started, there is no turning back. The exposed structure will not be finished correctly and there will be a lot of patching where the cabinet once was. I would not be possible to return it to the original configuration. I t would also have a big downward effect on resale value.

The Factory will tell you it can't be done but they will tell you that for any modification asked to be done after it is manufactured. Some report the Factory has told them that it cannot take the weight.

The Entertainment center certainly isn't a light weight structure. They used to come with heavy Sony Trinitron TVs. Both the bunk and entertainment center have similar basic framing.
I have been inside many entertainment centers stuffed full of books and other heavy objects, equal to the weight of two adults. Try bouncing that down a few thousand miles of bumpy roads.
Two normal sized adults sleeping will not stress the bunk nearly as much.
I have never seen an LD, with a heavily loaded entertainment center (or bunk), with any noticeable damage in the cabover area, inside or out.

So, yes it probably can be done but I wouldn't.
Instead, look for another LD, with a bunk and forget this idea,'

Exactly what Larry said "Fa get a bout it"( Italian ) lol .. I also called up the factory and said it would be hard to do. As I recall Andy was talking about a demo he did on his rig near the kitchen and there were tons of staples and not a simple job. Goes to show you Lazy Daze are not just slapped together with a couple of staples. They are put together to last from what I heard.
