Changing original TV to new Flat Creen April 22, 2015, 09:29:04 pm Yahoo Message Number: 152366We're looking to change out our original TV and replacing it with a new flat screen. I know this subject has come up lots of times but I've never figured out how to find something in the files section. Any one up to offering some advice? I remember something about having the proper inverter for a 12 volt LED TV We're considering a Jensen 19" 12 volt designed for truckers. I just don't want to spend the Bucks only to find I need to get a new inverterAny thoughts would be appreciated.Ted Collmar 26' RB Sun City West AZ

Simply hook it the 12-volt coach power. IIRC, the Jensens are kind of expensive. I bought an inexpensive Vizio a few years ago at Target, and simply threw away the 12V wall wart that came with it. Works great! It is getting harder to find TVs powered with an outboard power brick. That is generally not desirable for most TV buyers. But there still are a few available.-Dave, '06 MB, Indianapolis

But it kept blowing fuses and even melted the plug-in connector. It turns out the 12 volt source can vary from 10.5 to 14.2 volts depending on the state of the batteries charge and if you're plugged into shore power.I had to install a 12 volt regulator/stabilizer. Now I have a clean, constant 12.3 volts to the TV and blu-ray player, regardless of the input voltage. The regulator cost $43 on eBay and is much more efficient than an inverter to 120 vac and back again to 12 vdc.
Re: Changing original TV to new Flat Creen Reply #4 – April 23, 2015, 08:01:55 am Yahoo Message Number: 152370Some years ago when I first installed a flat-screen TV in our '02 FL, I got a 15" Polaroid with a 12V wall wart. Cut that off and wired it into the LD 12V system, using a Meanwell voltage stabilizer that can take in anywhere from 9 to 15 volts DC and put out a steady 12 volts. As for brands of TV's, I'm not impressed with any of them designed for 12V use. In our '05 RB I've had several. First was an old-aspect Audiovox - not bad, except the sound was awful and had to be augmented with external speakers. In fact that seems to be a common problem. So next came a 12V 21" Skyworth. That had an excellent picture viewable at very wide angles sideways and up and down. Same sound issue, but with external speakers we were very happy with it. But....at about 18 months of age the tuner died. It still worked when using our satellite system via the A/V inputs, but we couldn't get local OTA stations. So now I use it as an extra monitor with my laptop. Next came the current TV, a 22" Jensen. Jensen is way over-priced, but after reading reviews of other 12V TV's, I decided to bite the bullet and give it a try anyway. Not happy at all: the sound is the worst of any of the TV's we had in the LD, although with external speakers, it's OK. But the picture is the big disappointment with an incredibly small viewing area, both horizontally and vertically. Unless you're directly in front, the picture is totally unviewable.WxToadPosted by: Date: Wed Apr 22, 2015 11:57 pm ((PDT))I put a 12 volt TV in my 22' twin king. I plug it into the 12V outlet driver side couch in my TK next to the cable/antenna connection. Also purchased the optional A.C. to D.C. converter so I have the option to run off either 110VAC or 12VDC. No issues with blowing fuses or otherwise. There are other cheaper options than the Jensen, but in my experience are not as rugged or have as much factory support. As others have mentioned this has nothing to do with your inverter. The first D.C. TV I bought was a Skyworth. Lasted 3 weeks.Bob
