Top side cap April 11, 2015, 02:14:43 pm Yahoo Message Number: 152191Hi I've had one of the screw heads pop off on the top side cap. The screw body is still there but head is missing. Has anyone dealt with this before? I'm assuming that I'll likely end up drilling out the body and replacing with a slightly bigger screw. Does anyone know what size the original screw is? I figure worse case is that I'll put two new screws in on either side if the missing one and fill in existing "hole".Thanks Jim Sadler

Unlike the end caps, the top cap's screws do not take a lot of stress, with most of it picked up by the adhesive. Not sure why one would break but if it were me, I would leave it along and keep an eye on the cap. Trying to drill out a sheet metal screw is likely to make big mess as the drill bounces around. Even if you can drill it out, it would required an much larger screw to and would look worse, IMO, than leaving it alone. If it cosmetically bothers you, cut the head off a stainless steel screw and glue it in place. If the cap starts pulling loose, then I would take a more aggressive approach.The repair Bob mentioned pertains to the connection between the cab and cabover, where the screw heads snap off, a whole different animal.Larry

I'd call it edge molding and it is ABS like the corner molding over the edge sticking out behind the cab entry doors (mine has cracks around the screw heads) or in the back by the rear bumper (haven't come loose yet!). If you can see the shaft of the broken screw, is there any rust? It might be an indication of a water leak. If you can get the old screw out I would replace it with a longer stainless screw with some sealant. Or you could get a white painted screw head and glue it in place just for a cosmetic fix. I had to do that with the aluminum strip about knee high behind the driver door. I was snugging up the screws and snapped off one. RonB and 'Bluebelle' a fifteen year old TKB

So I now have 2 in a row missing. The side has lifted away a bit (less than 1/16"), I've put some "Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure" into it, in case it was leading to a leak. I'll likely call the factory and find out what size screw they use and just put them to the side of the missing ones and then put screw heads over the missing ones. If I can find a white paint that matches I may paint them also.Sorry for the confusion about what to call the cap, it was the first thing that came to mind.Jim Sadler

End cap; They are really large fiberglas pieces...front or rear? Vent lid cover on the roof? escape hatch, bathroom vent, fantastic vent fan lid or refrigerator vent cover? Black water or gray water vent cover? Could it be a vent lid cover as in a Maxxair cover over a vent lid?... RonB
