DIT (Do it Together) Electrical help

I'd love to learn more about the electrical in my coach and be able to DO more about it. Case in point: my Fantastic 2-way 3 speed vent in my 1997 TK is toast. I started pulling it apart and saw where the lines seem to have shorted quite some time ago. I disconnected the fan and tested the coach wires with the multimeter that Andy recommends on his Eureka. At this point and to my chagrin, I think I need to call in some professional help.

That leaves me with some questions: RV repair shops don't allow customers to watch/help during repairs, do they? Are there any such folks in northern CA somewhere near Sacramento other than Camping World? Maybe I should remove the Pla-Cool and install a new Fantastic vent in that spot in the meantime and donate/sell the Pla-Cool?

Any help is much appreciated! Ray

I would call Fantastic Fan about this. I had one go bad and called there tech support. They sent me a new one no charge except for shipping which was like $8. My experience with them not unique as they have done the same for other folks. Good product support.

For a good RV store around Sacramento you will have to travel to Auburn.

I have had work done there twice when I first got my LD. I did a bonehead move and backed up without lowering the escape hatch. A tree branch broke it off and threw it in front of rig. Was on my way to my first Morro Bay event and was desperate to get it fixed. I pulled in with no appointment and explained situation. They dropped what they were doing and replaced it with the proper spare. Was on the road again in an hour.

I also had some electrical work done there on another occasion. Have never had a problem with any of there work. Store is well stocked and if they don't have it usually can get it in one day. Good source for spare Sealand toilet parts. They never minded me watching them work. We B.S.'d and told some jokes.
Always a good experience.

Last year I took my '96 23.5 TK to Discount RV in Sacramento, for repair of some wood rot near the step.  It's an independent shop, and Mike, the owner, is as nice, honest, and skilled as I've found in almost 20 years of RV ownership.  He's the reason I decided to keep my LD after my husband died, as he'll help me with anything I need to know or do.  Try him out, he's on Elkhorn just west of Watt Ave in North Highlands.  Better than RV Dr George, in my experience, and of course, better than Camping World.

Before running out and buying a Fantastic Fan, I would recommend that you also look at the MaxxAir fan.
There were 3 Fantastic Fans installed in my SOB when I got it.  One failed while under warranty and the coach manufacturer replaced it with a MaxxAir.  All the fans had remote controls & I like the Maxxair a lot better.

Thanks to all for the tips. My Pla-Cool looks to be in pretty good condition, so I think I'll end up replacing it. The MaxxAir is getting a lot of good publicity it seems, so I think I'll be trading up.

If anyone is interested in the Pla-Cool in a month or so, feel free to let me know.

Thanks once again!
