Kathy

That would be handy for a long suitcase trip where doing small batch washing every day or two, in the sink or shower, becomes a chore.
In the LD, it doesn't seem to matter what we do, we still end up in a Laundromat every two weeks but it could be useful for getting an extra day or two between washings.

The "Scrubba" is a clever idea, but $55 seems like an awful lot for a waterproof bag with a nubby lining. If I were going to try this, I'd buy a waterproof "dry bag" (a few bucks in Walmart's camping department), throw in a nubby rubber pet groomer (a few bucks in the pet department), and wash my clothes with that.

No matter what "container" is used to wash out small items, they still have to be rinsed after washing, wrung out, and hung or "draped" to dry somewhere. I use a Presto Bucket; inexpensive, folds down, and almost indestructible; place the bucket in the shower, dump in the clothes, use the shower head to add water to barely cover the items, add a very small amount of soap, and let soak. The Presto Bucket is available from several sources; this is just one.

As ever, YMMV.

Hi, Andy,

Yes, I gulped when I saw the price of the Scrubba too. Will have to look for the items you suggest. Still, for a suitcase, it looks like an elegant solution to one's hotel room laundry needs. Especially with the prices hotels charge for laundry. A few items of clothes, and the Scrubba has paid for itself.

For years, when traveling, I have washed clothes in the shower with me.  I undress, throw the clothes into the bottom of the shower, shower and shampoo -allowing the sudsy water to cascade through the clothes, stomp on them, then do a final rinse and wringing in the sink. If I really want to go wild, I fold the wet items up in a towel and give it a hard wringing before hanging.  The clothes will be dry by morning.  The technique is very easy, does not require any 'gear' and gets the job done.  Might not work in mhome due to water conservation needs - unless hooked up.  It does work beautifully in hotels with plentiful water supply.  NOT buying yet another device for light laundering.

Has anyone ever thought of doing the laundry, then using the laundry water to bathe with? Nah, not gonna wash clothes with grey water, (especially from a Navy shower). Might flush the toilet with it though.

Thanks for this, Joan. It looks like a winner and I trust you, so I just ordered one.

You're referring to the Presto Bucket, I hope? ;-) I have two (different colors for dedicated bucket use purposes) and ordered another one. There are other brands/types of fold-down buckets, but I haven't tried them because the Presto Buckets hold up well.

Joan, Are you using the 2.9 or 4 gallon model? I am going  to get one of these. Seems ideal when desert boondocking. Far less depressing than a laundry mat. In the meantime I use the kitchen sink and let clothes drip dry in the shower. Crank up both fantastic fans (one intake, one exhaust) to circulate air and reduce drying time. Clean the sink with simple green after words to remove laundry detergent residue. Oxy-Clean and White Vinegar seems to work well when removing stains while hand washing clothes. I have found that soaking white clothes in vinegar overnight seems to be a good bleach substitute.

I have the 2.9 gallon; it's the "standard" size, and the most convenient to handle and use, IMO. The bucket measures 10" across the top and roughly 10.5" high when it's pulled up fully. The size sounds small, but if the thing is *full* of water, that's over 25 pounds. The bucket is sturdy, but it since it's a collapsible design, I've found it easier to handle when it's about half to 2/3 full max. It's a very versatile item, but it's "vinylized" nylon, so just be careful to use and store it so as not to poke holes in it. ;-)

Thank you Joan, that is exactly what I needed. It will store safely under one of my couches.
