Range hood light receptacle wiring

Hi all,
The light over my range became erratic and I found that the receptacle holding the lamp was the problem. Cut it off as close as possible, but still had some trouble crimping new connectors on to add some length to the wires due to lack of space.  I have the upgraded light working again, but am not very fond of the connections.

I wonder if anyone has any experience with getting into the area behind the switches on the front of the hood?I'd like to get in there and add some length to the wires so I can make sure I have proper connections to the light receptacle. It doesn't appear the wires coming to the light can be accessed any other way.  I've looked at the panel with the switches and I suppose it can be removed, but don't want to do any harm to the entire assembly so thought I'd check here first. Any chance they can be accessed from above if the microwave is removed?I've had it out, but didn't pay any attention at the time and don't want to pull it out again if it's not helpful.

Thanks for any insights.

It has been a while but as I recall, you simply push up on the display panel on the front of the range hood until the bottom edge clears and then swing it out.

Monti,

Thank you for the response to my question.  You're right about the procedure to remove the panel to access the back of the buttons.  After lifting the panel out of the way, it appears there will still be a fair amount of work in a tight space to un-bundle and extend the pair of wires for the light, but at least I know what it will take to do it now.  A nice day to do it would help!!

Thanks again,

Bill
