We saw a Lazy Daze at Advantage RV in Napa, CA last week. If it's someone in this group, would you please report what your experience was with them? I, personally, would like to know more as I live nearby. You could email me directly, psclallen at yahoo dot com, or post for the entire group's benefit. Thanks. Linda, 2008 31' IB

Hi Linda, I did have the occasion to use them a couple of years ago. My black tank developed a slight link at the exit pipe and they, on very short notice, took it in for a repair. I was expecting to have to replace the tank, but he felt he could successfully patch it. I was dubious - I didn't think anything would hold well enough. He used a patch kit he sells, and it actually did work -  for a good 3 years. It just started leaking again so I've decided to have it replaced.

But Advantage did the work, didn't change much. In fact, on his own, he bolted the edge of the drain valve to the LD body so the joint where it leaked originally wouldn't flex when I opened it. Seems to be family run and they were very nice.

Before springing for a new tank, you might try weld repairing it.

I had a similar leak caused by hitting a curb. I made welding tool using a transformer type soldering gun:

Weller 8200PKS 120-volt 140/100-watt Universal Soldering Gun Kit

the welding tip is made from a short length of 10 ga solid copper wire, bend to shame and hammer the end into a thin blade to make a hot knife. They sell this type of tip too, but they're easy to make.

The tank is made of ABS plastic and welds nicely. The knife is inserted into the crack and moved along slowly. The melted plastic flows together as the blade passes, doing a "butt weld". Once that's done, go over the weld using the hot knife blade as a putty knife, smoothing the surface. If need be, you can buy ABS plastic welding rod on-line for filler material.

Bumper, Yes, I remember reading about your technique back when it originally started leaking. I did try this first - following your instructions as closely as I could - but I had difficulty getting the knife to follow around under the ring in the area of the leak. It kept cutting into the ring instead of staying underneath. Maybe it wasn't hot enough. Ultimately, I kind of messed it up a bit, and while I didn't make it worse, I couldn't stop it entirely either, so I resorted to patching.

I still think it is a great approach though.
