Tonight, have discovered on my side door on my 27' MB is torqued enough to see daylight thru the closed door, the hinge on the upper part of the door is also bent and it appears to have crowbar marks about 5" from the top of the door ( if not a crowbar, something of a similar size) and took chunks out of the weather striping.  The door itself is bent as well.  I am truly bummed.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a place in Washington State that could help me on this? Or do I need to take it to the Mothership?   I will arrive in WA on March 6th in Chimacum (south of Port Townsend).

Thanks for any help on this.

What?  Did someone try to break in?

The  closest place I can think of is Eric's RV Store in Sequim, WA

Tom,

I believe someone did try. I had unloaded the rig in October, and did not open the side door until about a month ago when I started re-loading it. I thought I had fractured/broken the weather striping when it did not close at the top, as it was in single digits. Figured I'd wait until it warmed up, but promptly forgot about it until this evening when I had someone look at it.

Another thing I noticed, but thought the ravens or eagles might have played havoc with the top of my rig. Lots of sheets of white paint, came down from the roof, hung on dinette window, then on down to the ground.  Did the souls get on the roof to attempt to pry open the door - yes, I think they did. As it would be impossible for anyone to use a crowbar from the ground to get that kind of leverage to torque the top of the door, hinge, etc.  In morning, I will be looking at the roof.

Thanks for the tip on Eric's RV.  I will contact them tomorrow.

Melinda,

It is most unlikely that a bad guy would climb on the roof and pry at the top of your door in an attempt entry.

If someone did attempt to pry the door open, in most cases you would also see scrapes and scratches in the paint, and the aluminum frame of of the door would show nicks and bends.

The door is known for being susceptible to damage from wind, especially if it blows open and the stop hits. This causes the door to spring so that the latch side top and or bottom don't close all the way. The fix, I think it's even in the LD manual, is to insert a 2 X 4 chunk of wood between the coach and door in the latch area, then push against the top and bottom of the door to flex it inward until you get it straight.

As to the sheets of paint (?) coming off the roof, best to take a look up there and see what's going on .

all the best,

Well, I would like to think it wasn't true about someone attempting a break-in, but there are the scratches, holes dug into the weather striping, dings in the metal,  the door is bent at the top and the upper hinge is bent out. The door is still lockable and has been locked. The gap is quite noticeable to all.

Apparently, Haines (AK) had a rash of break-in's this winter and the police were quite interested in this - even tho I had no idea when it happened. But no report was filed.. Locals tell me the culprits are teenagers having too much time on their hands.  No snow year in Alaska prompts other problems.

The door has not been blown open or closed by winds in all the years of full-timing, but will try your suggestion to close the gap at the top. Its too cold not to attempt to alter its present state. So thanks for the tip, its appreciated.

Am pleased to say too, that no obvious damage was found on the roof. I suspect the sheets of paint falls back to my original paint issues (paint does not adhere to my window frames or bin frames). Apparently there are now other areas having issues too. Being back into sub zero temps may have lifted bubbled areas and when it rained washed it down or water seeped in and lifted when frozen.  Not sure of the why of it, but my rig will make it to the factory this year to address the paint problem.  There were no bird dropping found anywhere on my roof either.

Thanks for another great tip, all is appreciated.  Am so excited to getting back to full-timing and warmer climes... soon.

I'll bet it may have been a Raccoon trying to get in for a warm place and a free dinner.  A real thief could have easily broke a window or done much more damage to the door to get in.

There was some discussion a while ago about how a sender's name/address appears to those receiving/reading a note.  Most others I have seen via email have the sender's name/address at the bottom.  This one does not, so I'm guessing that this anonymous poster has his settings to show none of his information.  Presumably there are many permutations of settings, depending on program used to read/send mail, and the "flavor" of computer.
