Born Free is sold

Hi Group,

I occasionally visit the Born Free owners' site, Leap'n Lions and was shocked to read that  the company has been sold and has a new President and CEO.  Apparently Mr. Dodgem had been ill and his son was running the company for a while.

Born Free had been on our list when we first started looking at motorhomes. One look at a Lazy Daze convinced us to become LD owners, but I've always admired Born Free rigs too.

The new President-CEO of Born Free last worked with Dynamax. It will be interesting to see where they go from here. And it makes me wonder......

Hi Steve,
I looked at the Leap'n Lions web site and the Bornfree web site but didn't see anything about the company being sold.  Was it in the "members only" pages?  I really wondered about this as BF is basically a family owned company.  I believe that there are a few long time employees that may have some small interests.  I have been to the BF factory in Humboldt, IA, at least 4 times and have been impressed with their product and with their manufacturing and QA operations.   I no longer have my LD and have been looking at some other brands of coaches.  BF was high on my list.  However, their products are pricey and most of their floor plans are "2-people" coaches.
I did see BF's announcement of their new president/CEO who was formerly the head of Engineering for Dynamax.  I have also been through the Dynamax plant in Elkhart.  Their "Super C" coach on the Freightliner chassis is really sweet.  They also build conventional Class C coaches (Isata) on E-450 & F-450 chassis.  IMHO the Isata is way better than almost everything else from Elkhart.  I found it interesting that Dynamax us actually owned by Forest River, but they don't advertise that fact much and they market their products completely on their own.

Hi Doug,

I was reading  the forums page in the member's section of Leap'n Lions and saw the announcement  about a new president-ceo for Born Free. There were comments about new ownership and a link to an article in an Iowa newspaper about Dodgen Industries being sold.

Yes, BF has been sold.
You should be able to read it a the BF forum.
And no, you don't have to be  member.
I have a BF.
