Lithium Batterys

Does anyone know if a Lithium battery is being developed for RV's?  I want more battery power for off-road camping. Wondering if a Lithium could offer that with less weight then conventional lead-acid Trojans or AGM's.

Yes, they are available if you're willing to do a fair amount of research and work, spend a lot of money (substantially more per amp-hour than for AGMs), replace your converter with something a lot more sophisticated and customizable, add an "energy maanagement system," and spend a lot of time configuring and tweaking it all to work together. In short, this is not a simple drop-in replacement project. For more information, see the Technomadia blog.

It's still very early days for this technology, at least as applied to RVs. I looked into lithium batteries last spring when my eight-year-old AGMs began to show their age, but concluded that they were more than I wanted to tackle. Instead, I replaced my five Concorde Lifeline group 27 AGMs (total: 500 amp-hours) with the same company's group 31XT AGMs, increasing my storage capacity to 625 amp-hours.

In another six or seven years I'll reconsider lithium batteries, but for now I'm happy... and the replacement was electrically a straight swap, with only very minor cabinet surgery required to accommodate the slightly larger 31XTs.
