30IB Mattress Replacement Suggestions
Yahoo Message Number: 148923
Hello Group,
We are in a quandary about replacing our mattress. Our '06, 30IB mattress really needs replacing. We're using a 3-inch topper but that isn't enough. Our rig sat for many years in the desert heat and it has taken its toll on the foam.
The 1st option is ordering a new one from the factory but I'm concerned that it will again be too firm.
The 2nd option is ordering something on-line in a custom size. The problem there is that we won't be able to lie on it before we purchase.
The 3rd is finding a manufacturer in Southern California and having one custom built. That option will probably be the most expensive. The problem is that I've not been able to find anyone who specializes in RVs. Any suggestions?
And the final option would be to purchase a quality piece of memory foam, use an electric knife and carve one out for myself. Probably the cheapest but not the best looking option.
So, I am hoping for advice and suggestions.I am not opposed to ordering one from the factory since we live so close. Has anyone found a solution that has worked for you?

Thanks in advance.

You don't need someone who specializes in "RV" mattresses...any custom mattress place can make you exactly what you want.
Have you considered an air bed such as Select Comfort (there are other brands, too)?

If you live close to the factory, why not just go there and do a test "lie down" in a floor model? Even if they don't have a 31' on display, you would still get an idea of the "feel" of the mattress.

We will do that, for sure.  I am wondering about other's experiences to add to my decision mix.  Thanks for the suggestion.

I looked at Select Comfort but the sizes don't match up and we don't have a plug close to the bed.  There is one on the opposite wall but then you have the cord you'd have to step over.  Thanks for the suggestion.

We have used a queen size Sleep Number aka Select Comfort in our '02 30' since shortly after we brought him home and really like it. Even tho it is 60" wide, because of its flexibility, it fits in the 58" wide space. It hangs a few inches over the end of the platform but this is not a problem.

I had put a queen Tempur-Pedic in my diesel pusher and moved it to a house bedroom when we were not using the DP very much. I replaced that mattress with a Camper World spring and foam combo, costing around four hundred dollars, I think... I do not remember a brand name, but I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable it was since I was used to Tempur-Pedics. Unfortunately, our Norcold refrigerator set fire to the DP, ruining the new Camper World mattress.
So, I would recommend Camper World's higher-end mattresses. I also used a gel-filled mattress cover for the bed--It was not a topper per se, but a mattress cover with a gel-type padding, costing about a hundred dollars. It, too, was ruined in the fire. Together, they were good to sleep on and certainly were more reasonably priced than some other solutions.
Regarding Camper World mattresses, check first, but you probably can return them if you are not satisfied.

Good luck. A comfy mattress is a must. s/Terry Apple

We took our cushions apart when we slip covered them. Ours ('96 TK) was made of 2 pieces of foam. About 4"of firm foam and 2" of not so firm. The whole thing was wrapped in a cotton batting then covered with muslim fabric. If you feel handy you can pick your own foam at a fabric store or a custom upholstery site etc. The two layers were glued together.
Just a thought.
