I've been using Fresh Cab for a few years now. I like the smell (unlike mothballs or dryer sheets!), and I keep packets in all my outside compartments. I haven't had any rodent problems... yet. ;-)

However, when I tried Fresh Cab in the engine compartment, I found that unless I removed the packets each time I was planning to drive, the odor quickly baked out. So from my experience, this (or probably any smell-based rodent deterrent) is of questionable value in the engine compartment unless you're storing the rig for weeks or months. If you're driving, the odor is likely to be gone within a few days.
