OT- 3D printers at Home Depot

While at Home Depot the other day, I meet a factory rep setting up a sales display for their line of home DIY 3D printers.

Wow!, what a boom for crafters who are willing to spend the money and to learn how to design the needed CAD files. Even this has become much simpler with more apps to come.

So many things have happened in the past few years that I never thought would happen, a consumer 3D printer is one of them. When I first saw one about 15 years ago, at a trade show, it cost a couple hundred thousand dollars and required a lot of technical knowhow to use.

Can't wait until the Star Trek-type replicator comes out  for use in the LD. Would need to carry a couple extra dilithium crystal power cells. Wonder if they can be recharged with solar power?

It is remarkable to see this stuff being more common place.  Even Amazon is offering custom products.  At my job, I manage three 3D printers (2 FDM , 1 polyjet), we just got the polyjet about two months ago, and I'm so impressed with what I can do with it.  We are able to prototype stuff that was near impossible to do 5 years ago.
