For wet things, I keep a container on the counter in back of the sink that is lined with two plastic bags. Two? In case of leakage. The container I am using is a Rubbermaid canister that is meant for five pounds of flour, and the plastic produce bags from the grocery store fit it perfectly. I keep a folded paper towel in the bottom of the container in case there is a leak through both bags. (Belt and suspenders-like.) I don't like to clean up icky messes.For our next trip, I have acquired a plastic container that is supposed to be for keeping cereal fresh. It is a slimmer model, and has a smaller, but I feel adequate, opening into which to shove wet kitchen debris without needing to remove the whole cover.Mind you, I cook from scratch, so few cans/boxes, and we don't drink sodas, beer or wine which produce a fair amount of throw aways as well. So this small volume of available space may not be sufficient for the average RV'er. I use a standard plastic water bucket which a small size kitchen garbage bag fits nicely or a couple of plastic grocery bags. The standard size water bucket also comes in handy sometime just as a bucket especially those times adding fresh water to the tank without breaking out the hose. At the end of the day I twist-tie the bag and toss it in the back of the toad till I come across a proper receptacle. That bag is for soda and water bottles (we recycle where it's available).And for garbage and assorted junk we keep a 6-8 gallon rectangular basket in the 90-degree angle corner on the floor, under the sink-access door. The basket is lower than the door frame. We put a 13-gallon bag (wayyyy big for the basket) in that basket so that bag will serve as the overall trash bag as we swamp out the RV every day, adding the bathroom bag, newspapers, magazines, whatever, and bottles and cans if there is no recycle.When underway the kitchen basket goes in the shower until we stop for the day. We have a couple glue on hooks attached to the wall over the sink that separates the galley from the bath (installed by the previous owners). They are at just the right height to hang plastic grocery bags.

We put all non recyclable and dry trash in a plastic grocery bag or waste paper can liner (depending what is available). Our wet trash as others do, goes into either a small plastic scrap bag or into a small throw away container while cooking then into the plastic bag and into the grocery bag for dumping when the trash gets dealt with Sandy VT

I started out with a metal, three-pound coffee can (yes, metal and three pounds, so you can imagine how long ago that was!) in our 1978 Volkswagen Campmobile because it was sturdy and had a positive seal top to contain odors. Fast forward through iterations of Rubbermaid and Tupperware containers, all of which did a good job, to the Snapware cereal container that is on deck for our next adventure.We were out at the storage place yesterday to fire up the engine in hopes of a trip pretty soon, so I took this picture of the cereal container sitting at the back of the sink. I left the paper towels sitting next to it so that size could be judged by the viewer. The opening looks adequate to me for most of what I would want to put in there, but the proof will be in the pudding on the trip. (Can you tell I am getting anxious? ;-> ) It's been almost exactly two years since we've actually been anywhere, except for a run or two up and down the highway to exercise her.
