Consequences of ignorance about parking brake fluid.

I sincerely hope that our experience can save other Lazy Daze members the same frustration and consequences that Mary  and I are faced with as a result of my ignorance. As I wrote before I really thought that the parking brake was a self-sealed unit. This was also an assumption shared by many mechanics. I learned the hard way that it is not.

Following is a short explanation for Larry and other mechanically-inclined people.
 Despite numerous efforts the parking brake unit, in our case, is not removable from the shaft. For some reason it has twisted over the splines. Since this shaft is part of the transmission, I assume that you already guessed it. Despite that our third transmission was performing excellently, we have to say good bye to this one too now and have number four installed. Sorry Larry, I have to withdraw my offer to get the brake unit to you. It will be removed with the transmission as one unit.

Are we ready to give up traveling with our Lazy Daze now? Absolutely not!!!!!!!! We just consider this another expensive learning experience. Hopefully, after being stranded here for more than a week and grind our teeth a little we just move on. We are already registered for the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque and plan to be  there.

However, let's all learn from this.

Not happy but also not downhearted.

Aad, that is such a disappointing situation.  I'm sorry to hear of the trouble you're experiencing.
 But this could happen to any Ford E450-based unit, not only Lazy Daze, right?
 My thoulghts and well wishes are with you and Mary, and hope you get back on  the road real soon.

I've read they switched to a different style parking brake with the 2008 E450 models, one is axle mounted, not transmission mounted. Can anyone verify this?
