Although we're not currently with Millenicom, we have used their service and never experienced any problems with them.  When my current contract with Verizon is finished, I'll probably go back to using Millenicom for Internet access and get a cheaper service for voice.

I know quite a few LDers use millicom and I wonder if anyone has experienced what this guy did as posted on rv.net :

I've used Millenicom for quite a few years, starting with a USB stick and progressing to the MiFi 2200, MiFi 4620L, and currently the Pantech MHS291L "Verizon Jetpack" router. Only once have I seen a "sudden slowdown" problem of the type described, and that was shortly after getting the new Pantech router  this past winter.

It happened to me and a friend (we had both ordered new routers), and we verified that it was not a local-tower problem by swapping the SIM cards between our routers and our iPads. The sluggishness moved along with the cards. It took a week or so, but Millenicom tech support finally resolved the problem: it was a misconfiguration at Verizon's end.

The person who posted on RV.net ("SuGar Shack") apparently was not willing to wait more than a couple of days for the problem to be resolved. I can understand that--when you depend on an internet connection, losing it can be very frustrating!--but from her description, I suspect that the problem was similar to what my friend and I experienced, and was one that could only be solved by Verizon. And I suspect that it was solved... but by then, this couple had moved on.

Again, my own experience is that I've only had one problem in the many years I've been using Millenicom. But it is true that when a problem is due to a screwup on Verizon's end, with Millenicom you have to go through their tech support, who in turn will talk with Verizon's tech support... so it's likely to take longer to resolve the problem.

The alternative is to sign up with Verizon, so you can talk directly to them if any trouble arises... but that will cost you roughly twice as much for the same level of service. It's your choice.

We had a similar issue.  We dropped Millenicom and went with a new Verizon sim card in the same device.  Our Millenicom service was the Verizon service.  I had seen the reports about Verizon throttling Millenicom users.  The issue we happened about the same.  But when we had another phone issue we asked Verizon about cost and made the switch.  For now my wife is the primary user of the device.  She uses it when on travel or at work here in DC.  So far the cost for how we are using the devise is about the same for both services.  But we have not been making heavy use of it.   I think if my wife was retired and both of us were using the bandwidth associated with the account the Verizon card would cost us more in no time at all.  For now we  will stay with Verizon as the service has been better.
As we own the devise we did not need a service agreement and can move between carriers at will.  I think I would have preferred to stay with Millenicom but as stated earlier them working the issue still leaves one without coverage.  It is not like they (any carrier) are penalized with down time.

I wonder who writes the APR or Airman's Performance Report. Insert wink and just kidding icon here.  Circuit down time was always a big deal when working in and with the military.

Anyone interested in Millenicom' s service would be well served by reading the link Joan gave.
Read, in particular, the reason behind the price increase. Basically, they were forced into it by Verizon so that speeds wouldn't be throttled. This didn't affect only Millenicom, but other bulk users of data, too.
I imagine that's the quagmire the person who posted on the Open Roads forum found themselves in, but didn't allow enough time for the situation to be resolved.

I have been using Millenicom for 3 yrs. no issue. I have the Novatel device and do have to reboot it about 2 or 3 times a week. Not enough of a bother to justify a replacement cost.
Only problem I have ever had is their new hard data limit policy where they shut you down when you exceed 20GB for the month. Used to be they would let you go over a couple GB with a warning. But I just manage my usage better thru their website. Haven't found a better deal for my needs. Service has been seamless.  I do have a high power Wilson amplifier and telescopic antenna Larry built and installed for me so my coverage is great.

You can now buy another 20GB of data if you run through the original 20GB before the month is over.
