Art and I are trying to head up to Maine in July and would love to chat with folks who have been up to the Arcadia National Park.  We have a 4 day weekend, but not sure which one we will be travelling on - either the 11th or the 25th of July. We would like to find out more about the area.

The best starting point for planning a visit any national park is the NPS website; in the case of Acadia, the site is:

Acadia National Park (U.S. National Park Service)

I suggest beginning your research with the "Plan Your Visit' link (at page left on the home page of the site).

Acadia is a beautiful park, but I was there too long ago to offer tips on current conditions; you may get feedback from those who have visited recently, and if so, I hope they know if the beaver pond is still there! ;-)

It's been a couple of years, but I've been twice and can offer a few tips.
We stayed at Blackwoods campground, which is in the park and accepts reservations.  No electric, and smaller sites, but our MB fit just fine.  They do have a dump station, and you can expect the sites to be unlevel.  A number of campers ran generators (excessively IMO), but we opted to take the RV for a trip to some of the non-crowded sighseeing pullouts one day and let solar charge the batteries.  All the campsites I saw were very shaded.
Expect crowds and parking problems, especially when a cruise ship is in port.  If you want to visit one of the small beaches, plan it for a non-cruise ship day.
Acadia has a bus system which we used extensively and is available and well equipped for bikes.  Riding bikes along the carriage roads was a highlight of the trip for us.
This trip (http://divered.com/) is unique and well worth the effort for any age.  IIRC, we took the bus system from the campground to the college where the tour boat is docked.
I found this series of posts to be accurate based on what we saw.  It's worth a read if you plan to visit: http://www.rv-dreams-journal.com/2011/08/arriving-on-mt-desert-island-bar-harbor-me.html

We loved Acadia, even with the summer crowds, and would go back in a heartbeat.  Shoulder seasons are just fantastic.

Hope that helps- Rich '03 MB in NC

My wife and I made that trip last year.  We really enjoyed the trip.  Just pick a campground near Acadia, and go to the park and enjoy yourself.  You really can'ty go wrong..  I forgot the name now, but go have tea at the tea house, go take a couple of horse tripss ( wagon/carridge rides...) up into the hills - very nice and laid back...
Spend as much time as you can afford, there is really alot to do in the area...
