East Coast To Do's

Wow!  A loaded question!  An enormous amount of things to do on the East Coast of this great country.  If you start in Maine Acadia National Park and Baxter State Park (no camping at Baxter but other options are available.  You can easily spend two weeks at Acadia.  Do not miss Schoodic Peninsula, the northern part of Acadia.  If you go further north to Jones Port you may be able to get a boat out to Machias Seal Island to see Puffins in the wild.  Further north in Maine at a Canadian Border Crossing, you can take in Campobello at Roosevelt International Park (nice Canadian campground).CT has some neat state parks.  In New York go the West Point for some neat views up and down the Hudson.  Hyde Park on the Hudson is just north of West Point if you are a Roosevelt fan. Bear Mountain is just south of West Point for a few hikes and you may get a good view of various hawks flying by from one of the lookouts.
Going south has many opportunities such as the Skyline Parkway and the Blue Ridge Parkway. See the web sites below. Pull out a good map and plan your trip. The North Carolina outer banks offers some interesting sites and views.
Go to kathyandbobonthego.com and look up the 2012 trip. Lots of pictures in Maine, New Hampshire, CT, and some other states. Each collection has a slideshow. So double click (I think) on each collection to get some ideas on what you can do. We travel with hiking gear, bikes, and kayaks and manage to frequently use each item on our travels.
It would take me a week to list all the places not to miss from Maine to Key West.  I suggest a Fromers Guide and then each states tourist guide.  If you are starting in September, I suggest a north to south route to avoid winter weather. Don't forget some great national parks coming across the country.

By the way, we have done the west including your beautiful California.  While the nautical term for computing courses is "West is Best, East is Least."  Don't believe it.  While the Rockies beat our pants off for height, we right coasters have lots to see and do.

Have fun, Bob SE 5
