Painting (gasp!) the interior and laminate flooring

My dearly beloved partner in life would love to paint around the kitchen area to cover the less than lovely wall paper in our '97 TK. Any suggestions other than "don't do it!"? I'm wondering if a latex would work, whether it would need to be primed, etc.

Also, we've see others who have put laminate down on the floor and I thought I'd seen posts of people who have described this. If anyone could point us in the right direction, we'd appreciate it.

For what it's worth, I painted my 1985 twin/king's walls with standard semigloss latex. There were no problems as long as I owned the rig.

Thanks Joan, but I didn't see anything on there about painting the interior walls.
