A.C. Power Cord Wire Size March 02, 2014, 04:44:27 pm Yahoo Message Number: 145206I have an 01 LD and need to get a new extension cord for the power cable coming out of the coach. Does anyone know the wire size (gauge) in the stock factory supplied A.C. power cable. Since it's 30 amp I would imagine its around 10 gauge but this is only a guess. Thanks for all input/responses. The yellow 10 gauge/3 conductor Marinco power cable used on modern Lazy Daze coaches is available from Amazon, among other places, for about eighty bucks. On the other hand, you did say "extension cord." If that's what you're looking for, most Walmarts carry a good thirty-foot 30-amp extension cord in their RV supplies department (part of the automotive section). It has the special plug and socket used by RVs (which differ from the ones used in home laundry and kitchen setups).Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels As an Amazon Associate Lazy Daze Owners' Group earns from qualifying purchases.

If you go with 8ga for 30 amp you will have less voltage drop. More important is to have good, heavy duty plugs and sockets.IanOn Sunday, March 2, 2014 3:50 PM, "jctaylor1941@..." wrote:

Power Cord Wire Size Reply #4 – March 02, 2014, 06:22:05 pm Yahoo Message Number: 145210Joan, You are absolutely correct, It is a built in cord I just stuff into the allocated storage compartment and not detachable. I used to use a 75 ft. extension cord when running A.C. and the ends kept burning up. Guess I learned a lesson.Bob 01 23.5 TK, Jeep Cherokee Toad about to get hopped up!
Re: A.C. Power Cord Wire Size Reply #5 – March 02, 2014, 06:32:50 pm Yahoo Message Number: 145211Andy, Thank you for the good info. I found a 10 gauge 50 foot at home depot: http://www.homedepot.com/s/extension%2520cord%252010%2520gauge?NCNI-5 I need at least 50 Ft. when I go to OR. in the summer and stay at friends place. Gets over 100 degrees some days and can't get close enough to an outlet. As Joan pointed out my cord is fixed (hardwired) into the rig. I wish I could get a 8 or 6 gauge cord 50 ft. but I haven't found one yet. Thanks again, Bob You are all so great to try and help me! Good people around here! 01 23.5 TK, Jeep Cherokee Toad soon to be hopped up!
Re: A.C. Power Cord Wire Size Reply #6 – March 02, 2014, 06:51:43 pm Yahoo Message Number: 145212The only pre-made 8 gauge 'extension cords' that I've seen are 'welder's cords'; AFAIK, the maximum length is 25'. Don't know about the connections or the amount of voltage drop. Joan
Re: A.C. Power Cord Wire Size Reply #7 – March 03, 2014, 05:53:40 pm Yahoo Message Number: 145222Go to a welding shop and tell them what you need and what you plan to use it for. They can build it for you, though you may have to provide the connections. That is a LONG stretch so I would imagine you will need at a couple of gauges larger in wire size to preclude a sizable voltage drop. There are charts on the Internet that you can use to calculate it.Chuck Myers 97 RB @Rooseveldt Lake AZ
