The joy of RVing January 22, 2014, 09:26:25 am Yahoo Message Number: 144686Guess what happened to me on the way to the forum....ah dump station at La Posa South. My grey water tank (thankfully not the black) fell off and landed in the middle of the street. Two nice men carried the completely full tank to the side of the road to drain it. Now I'm waiting to dump the black tank and hope that I can find someone in Quartzsite who can fix it. The tank seems to be in one piece without cracks. Not a good thing for a lightweight like myself who half the time can't distinguish up from down. Cheers? Ilse
Re: The joy of RVing Reply #1 – January 22, 2014, 11:04:26 am Yahoo Message Number: 144691Yes, dropping either waste tank in the road is a pretty startling experience, but the grey is a lot less so than the black! ;-)Your experience offers a good opportunity to remind people to check the tightness of the mounting bolts on the grey and black tanks; they can, and do, loosen over time. The tank 'frames' and bolts/nuts should be checked periodically to avoid potentially nasty surprises!Joan

While doing your annual frame tightening, be sure to check the holding tank hardware as well as the steps, generator and propane tank. They all can loosen and I occasionally find some parts completely missing.If you tow, the bumper bolts WILL loosen. Replacing the grade-5 hardware with grade-8 and adding locking nuts will eliminate the problem. Torque the bumper bolts to specification.
