Not sure if many of you pass through Boulder, CO, but if you happen to like well-stocked hardware stores, McGuckin Hardware is worth a visit. We bought a new oscillating ceramic heater for the LD and a fireplace tool kit for the wood stove in my workshop. They've got just about everything a person could want in there. I saw some eight foot lengths of 1 1/2 inch copper pipe for only $150.00! And...Le Peep is next door. Great breakfasts. I don't have anything to do with either place. Just enjoyed messing around on New Year's Eve.

Mcguckin HW store are very much like an ACE hardware in that they carrry things that most HW stores do not carry. But there prices are on the high side.
As for the copper pipe that you seen; what was the grade/ wall thickness. There are 4 grades.
It was most likly DWV which is Dranage/Waste/Vent. and the marking on the side would have been yellow. This grade is only approved for waste and vent.

The other wall thicknesses are K, L, and M

K is approved water under ground

L is approved for water above ground high pressure.
M is approved for water above grade but not high pressure. Heating only. But in the 1960 most plumbing codes started to approve it for all water use above ground because of the price of copper.

I didn't pay attention to the codes on the pipe. I mentioned it as an example of the weird stuff they have. I just like wandering through hardware stores, the older the better. McGuckins to me is like a super Ace Hardware because of the broad inventory. Like Ace, you have to watch their prices, but like Ace, they have things no one else cares to offer. Wel lost our local old fashioned hardware to an Ace that then got chased out by Home Depot.
