Are there E-450 repair, service, or wiring diagrams in pdf or Kindle
Yahoo Message Number: 143622
I'd like to get a repair/service manual and wiring diagram book in pdf or Kindle format for my 2004 Ford E-450 chassis (2005 Greyhawk 24SS). I can't find anything on the web. Are they available anywhere?

Eric, I got an emanual which is the shop manual consisting of some 4800+ pages. The site I went to was www. technicalrepairmanuals.com. I did not see Ford on their list of categories so I clicked on the Contact button and asked is they had a manual for the Ford E450 and gave them the year. They responded with a link to the emanual. I think the cost was $14.99 and once I gave them my credit card information then the download started. It is a large download. This is the shop manual so it has everything I ever wanted.

Is the manual you purchased a full copy of Ford's Workshop Manuals?  There are incomplete and aftermarket manuals for sale,  such as Haynes or Chilton,  that are incomplete and do not contain all information that is in the Ford manual.
The wise will insist on a official Ford repair manual and electrical diagram book. The aftermarket books usually cover several years of production and leave all the little details out that Factory books include, they are very poor substitutes and can be generic.. The aftermarket electrical diagrams are almost never accurate, if included at all.
It is difficult to find a PDF version since all the Factory material is copyrighted.
For our 2003 LD, several years ago I found a compete set of lightly used Ford Shop manuals online, they were not cheap but have already paid for themselves. I wish a CD/DVD/PDF was also available but have not seen them for early 2000s Ford, only the newer models. It's a PIA to haul around 12-lbs of manuals, until they are needed.
Insist on the genuine Ford manual, if you are going to maintain your LD's mechanicals.
The Chilton and Haynes manuals are not adequate IMO.

Larry, I am not sure if it is the genuine Ford Manual. Its title is 2001 Ford E-series - Workshop Manual and each page footer has "Courtesy of FORD MOTOR COMPANY". It has no index or Table of Contents but to me it seems complete with diagrams of the engine and transmission etc and it also has electrical diagrams. As I said, it is 4800+ pages.

Thanks

I have both the three paper manuals for the 2003 E450 chassis, and the PDF manual for that year. I can confirm that they are the same, and that the PDF is a genuine Ford product--not an abbreviated third-party publication (e.g., Chilton's) or some amateur's quickie scans of the Ford manuals.

IMO, on-line information, whether PDF, Kindle, etc are fine if two important conditions are first met:

1. You have a comfortable, well lit, place to sit, either @ a desk or a chair; and

2. The information is presented in sequential order e.g. a novel, essay, etc.

However, for anyone who has ever worked on a car, they would instantly recognize that neither of those conditions typically exist. For instance, you can't (easily) read a hand-held screen while laying on your back under an oil pan, or leaning over/into an engine bay with flashlight & meter/tool attempting to locate & test/adjust something.

In reality, when you're under a vehicle, you're prying & looking, and if you have to reference something, you shrug yourself sideways to confirm what you're seeing with a spread open diagram chart. Practically climbing into an engine bay can be even more cumbersome, especially if you're trying to get at something far & deep.

Add to these two examples the rarity of ever reading an automotive manual end-to-end. The reality is constantly page flipping and bookmarking, to the point where I've covered mine with sticky notes for quick access.

While I agree with Larry that hauling 12 lbs of official factory manuals is a PITA, it sure is nice to have those books right there to flip open at the dinette table if I have the slightest hint or suspect that I'm going to have to check something out in the near future - or, right there and then.

My experience is the opposite of yours ;-) . The complete Ford manual has far more detail than I will ever need, but the Chilton/Haynes have a useful, digestible amount. I might still need the Ford wiring diagrams, as the Chilton/Haynes books generally don't have those.

I'll check out the emanual Kev

I agree but ...
with a Kindle Paperwhite you can read in the sun, or in a closed closet, under a car, in a car, etc.  I have tested that you can put it in a zip lock bag and still read it (and with dirty hands)
I have used many ebook readers and they are all in my drawer never to be used.  They all would meet your descriptions.
I have bad eye sight and cannot read paper books.   The weak point with a Kindle are PDFs.  Even going through Amazon's conversion there is a good chance you cannot read the PDF.  But there is software that can convert anything if you can learn how to use it.
I had to read a 1000 page (normal page) court case from the 1800's.  On Archive.org they had many conversions of it and the only one that made  sense was the PDF.  All conversions missed about 20% of the doc.  I tried for over 6 months to get through this doc with a compter and a Sony ereader (Sonys are very good with PDFs).  After getting a Paperwhite and learning how to make a kindle readable PDF (this took me a few days), I was able to read the court case in two days on the Paperwhite (large font).
Well anyway, except for the zip lock bag, it would be just as easy to read a Paperwhite under a RV or easy chair.  There are no other readers that use the technology as the Paperwhite right now.
I agree the navigation is not as easy as with a paper book, but it can be done.
Excuse me this is my first post since Yahoo change so I do not see how to trim??

I don't do much work on the chassis, because stuff is too big, too heavy, too complicated, or too hard to access, so I'm normally using the manuals to decide if I have a real problem; if so, does it need immediate attention; should I take it to a dealer or independent, or is it something straight-forward (like changing the ox sensors) that I can do myself.
Because I'm a former EE, the wiring diagram is useful to me, and it's not so hard to work on or diagnose.
If I do want a few pages with me while squirming around on ground or under the hood, I could print them out while are home, or make a few notes on paper to help me.
If the E-450 is as reliable as my previous E-350 was, I'll rarely have to access the manual, and even more rarely, need the info

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, Eric--I don't expect to replace a head gasket or rebuild my transmission anytime soon. I leave that kind of thing to experts.

But I figure that having the paper manuals may be useful if my rig breaks down, and whatever mechanic happens to be local doesn't have them. So I carry the books... but I also have the PDF version on my 10" iPad Air, where it's quite readable. (I also carry the paper manual for my Honda Fit in the back of the car--same reason.)

Hi Eric,
Since my last message I when back in my emails and found the site that I was referred to and it is www.1000repairmanuals.com. I when to their site and they don't list Ford trucks, just cars. In May when I wanted the emanual I emailed them and they gave me the link to their site that had the emanual in pdf format. The last 2 days I went through it and it does contain the 2 service manuals as well as the electrical diagrams in the last 430 pages. The problem is that some of the diagrams are not together in sequence, i.e. Section 10 is Grounds and starts with 10-2 to 10-18 together but 150 pages away is 10-1 and 10-19. I have found some duplicate pages as well. I am going to print out the 450 pages and put them in the correct order and rescan them to that they are in the correct sections.
Also I said before that there is no Table of Contents, so I found paper manuals online at www.faxonautoliterture.com/Service-Manuals/Ford/E-450-Super-Duty and they have the manuals as well as a separate wiring diagram manual. The sample pages have the Table of Contents which I downloaded and made my own from this template so that I could find any particular section quickly.
As both you and Andy have said it is good to have the manuals and I do the small stuff but just in case I have a breakdown in a smaller town, I will have the manuals with me in my computer.

Hi Kevin,
There may be an easier way to re-order the pages. Your PDF reader might allow you to "print" each page as a pdf file. Then, you could reassemble them as single pdf, using appropriate software. Other than Adobe Acrobat, I don't know what that software is, but a web search should find it.
If your PDF reader doesn't allow you to "print" a pdf document page as a pdf file, you can use the reader I use:

PDF Reader | PDF Viewer | Foxit Reader
http://www.foxitsoftware.com/Secure_PDF_Reader/>
It's a free reader with many more features than Adobe Reader, including the ability to add comments and other modifications to PDF documents.
It's a great tool (or use a printer emulator like CutePDF Writer (also free), that I've used for years). Either will allow you to create PDF files by "printing" them, and Foxit will even let you do it from a blank page

It just occurred to me there might be another way: create a list of bookmarks (what you see as a "table of contents" in your reader, generally on the left side of the reader) for each page in the desired ordered, then save the document to preserve the bookmark list. Then, when you use it, you just click the next or previous bookmark to advance through the drawings. You could even group them in sections like lighting, engine, whatever.

You can do the above with Foxit Reader, but I don't know if other readers will let you do that. You might find the document is protected and doesn't allow adding bookmarks. The workaround is to produce an unprotected copy by "printing" it as a PDF document, then using that copy to modify as desired.

I contacted 1000repairmanuals; unfortunately, the 2004 E-450 manual is not available from them. I'll keep looking.

Although I haven't used them for years, the following is a site that has vehicle-specific and detailed info for professional mechanics, on a subscription basis. Whether you can download manuals or it is only on-line, I don't know:

I've used one called PDF995 for several years now.  It has an option to store successive PDF output in a single file.
You could 'print' each series of pages, say 10-1, 10-2- 100-18, then 10-19.  that would line them up again.

Just remember to turn the feature off at the end- I did send out a ' 2 page'  note that went to 88 pages-

The cost of the program is $9.95.

Lightning PDF is another one. I used PDF995 for many years before I switched to Lightning.
