Yahoo West 2014 GTG - Morro Bay State Park March 7-9, 2014
Yahoo Message Number: 143463
Once again, we are happy to announce the annual Yahoo West GTG for 2014 once again will be held at Morro Bay State Park on the weekend of March 7-9, 2014.
This is a great opportunity to meet your fellow LD owners and forum members. We have averaged 35 rigs for the past several years so there will be lots of new and old faces to meet. You never know who will show.
Half  the park is on reservations and most sites are still  available, so now is the time to select the best. The electrical sites fill  quickly so if you need shore power, don't wait too long.
http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=594 We have reserved site 62 and will arrive Thursday evening. In the past, many arrive early and/or stay over for additional days.
The Morro Bay area has a world of things to do ranging from walking, and shopping to wine tasting and kayaking in the bay.
Bird watchers will be awarded with sightings of dozens of varieties.
There is a nice, moderately priced restaurant, The Bayside CafĂ©, located  on site at the State Park Marina and overlooks the bay. It is located  across the street from the campground and is a good place for both lunch  and dinner.
Plan on happy hour each night and a potluck on Friday and Saturday nights.
We usually do our "All things LD" event on Saturday afternoon and are always looking for knowledgeable LD owners to give a talk or presentation. Any volunteers? More on this as we get closer to the GTG.

All LDs are welcome.
If you have questions, just ask.
If you plan on attending, please email me.

See you there.

This is great Larry. I live in San Luis Obispo and have my sailboat across the street from the state park. With the sailboat slip I get to park overnight for free at the marina. I look forward to getting suggestions and learning.

It's less than a month before the annual Yahoo Morro Bay GTG, held this year March 7-10.
There are still some reservable regular sites (dry)  plus it appears the half the campground is available for first come-first serve campers. During the last two year's GTG, the campground was only partially filled.

The schedule during the GTG is the same as previous years.
Friday -day free, happy hour and potluck at around 4:30pm Saturday - Rig open house on Saturday morning, Afternoon-All-things LD meeting / discussions / tours- it change each year depending on who shows and what topics are of interest this year.
Happy hour and potluck at 4:30pm   We have themearly due to the cool evening weather.
We have a wide range of dietary preferences, including vegetarians and vegans so lets keeps the food on the healthy side.  If you have fire wood, bring some.
The Morro Bay area has a wide range of activities, some within walking range others requiring a toad.
Across the street from the campground is the wonderful Bay Cafe, overlooking the bay. It is one of our favorite hangouts for lunch or dinner.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

"..held this year March 7-10." ---- The dates are a 'moving target' right?  ;-)  Some of us plan to arrive on the 5th and leave on the 9th, but whenver, whatever, it's always a fun time with good people; looking forward to the annual hoopla!

Correction. The 20014 Morro Bay GTG is to be held March 6-9, 2014.
I should finish my coffee before posting anything in the morning.
And it is true, many will show early and or stay a day or two longer.
MB is our favorite spot on the Central Coast with so many things to do that we never get bored when staying for a week. We hope to get the kayaks on the water Sunday or Monday to enjoy one of the best paddling sites in California. The Bay supports a wide variety of bird life with continuous turnover of migratory birds. We have paddled the Bay for over twenty years and each trip is a new event, it is never the same.

Thanks Joan for catching my mistake.

You should have had even more coffee...or does Morro Bay State Park have to be reserved 18000 years in advance? Ilse

No 'mistake', Larry!  Come earlier, stay later; whatever works for whoever wants to come is part of the fun!  ;-)

Ilse, this is the link to the Morro Bay SP page:

http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=594

Click on the 'Online Reservations' button at page right; this will take you to the Morro Bay SP reservations page on Reserve America.  When I looked (and as Larry mentioned), there were a few reservable dry (no hookups) sites still available.

It's just one week unto the 2014 Yahoo West GTG at Morro Bay.
Checking the Morro Bay reservations this morning, through ReserveAmerica, shows plenty of non-reservable sites available, so if you want to come but have not reserved a site, you should be fine if arriving Thursday or early Friday. Many are showing early and leaving a day or two late.
With the rain received a couple weeks ago, along with this week's new storms, the Central Coast should be turning green, the way it's suppose to be this time of year.  The spring is our favorite season on the Central Coast.
As mentioned before, we will have happy hour/pot lucks both Friday and Saturday afternoon, beginning at 4:30pm. We are starting early this year since it gets cold quickly once the sun sets.
Please consider bringing folding chairs and table, a lantern, a warm jacket, and firewood for the evening.
We will have a "Open House" on Saturday morning so if you are in the mood for visitors, turn on your porch lite and open the door. It's a good time to see how others set up their rigs.
Saturday afternoon we will have our "All things LD" group discussion and/or demonstrations.
This GTG is open to all RVs, not just LDs. It is a good time for wannabes to check out the various floor plans in one place.
Best of all, it's a great time to meet some of your fellow Yahoos, that's what this GTG is all about

See you there.

Hi Larry,

It's going to be our first year at the Morro Bay GTG.

We want to tour the other open LDs on Saturday and we're also opening our doors to all.  Is someone supposed to stay with their LD to answer any questions, or do we just take off and leave the door open?  Maybe we could ask questions in the afternoon about a feature we saw in a particular LD if the owner wasn't there?

In other words, how does this work???

Bob and Andrea, This will be our third time and it has always been enjoyable and educational.  We are in space 49 this year. You'll know us by the two red dogs that travel with us (Vizslas) and the little Honda Trail 90 parked outside.   Don't recall the "open house" being real formal either time.  Maybe an idea this year could be a sticky note next to the LD entry door with the owner's cell phone number and name.   You could then give them a call and set up a good time for a "come on in." Post from Quartzsite last month during a play off game.

It's a choice, do you look at others or stay and show yours.? While I'm sure we all are honest, I still would not suggest leaving your LD open for inspection without one of you being present.
You could each take a turn at looking at other rigs while the other stays in your LD, switching after an hour or so. You will find most folks are happy to show you their rig at almost any time. The idea is to get out and meet and see other LD owners and their rigs throughout the GTG.
You will find this GTG to be very informal and low-key, evn more so this year since I have been distracted by family matters.
Anyone interested in helping with the LD technical talks, on Saturday afternoon, please let me know. Our best teacher just canceled due to two obligatory funerals.

Wish we could be there. Last year we were the couple whose toad burned up on the way. We wound up continuing "toadless" and had a great time. This year surgeries keep me from driving so will miss one of a favorite get-togethers. Next year for sure the lord willing and the creeks don't rise.
