New 600W Inverter questions November 04, 2013, 09:44:08 pm Yahoo Message Number: 143456Hey Friends, need some advice if I could... the inverter under Ciao's dining table (near the battery) has not been working for several years. We'd like another one primarily to charge our computers and iphones.Do you think this one would work well? I'd get the 1000W one instead of the 600W one if I could think of a need for it, but I can't. Correct me if I'm missing something, please.http://tinyurl.com/mrkkjssThere's a wonderful RV, magician-type, mobile, repair guy who comes by the UT Tailgating lot. Ciao Baby is just going to have a standing appointment with him. Haha! But the last game is in 2 weeks, so I need to get this ordered if I want him to install it then.Is there anything else I should order or ask about regarding the inverter replacement? Like an inline fuse? Or do I likely already have one from the last inverter that was a 400W?Thanks for the help, Tessa (who is NOT an Electrical Guru) in TX '92 MB-Ciao Baby!

The bigger the inverter, the more 12V current it can draw. Be aware of how much battery capacity you have and how fast different inverter loads can draw it down. Also, as the inverter get bigger, the closer to the batteries and the heavier gauge the 12V wiring, the better. Any wiring and fuse installed for a 400W inverter may need to be upgraded for a larger inverter. You definitely want an appropriate sized fuse close to the battery. For a 1000W inverter it should be about 100A.Art

Make it easy by replacing the old inverter with one of the same size or even smaller, using the existing wiring. Most HDTVs use less than 50-watts. A definite advantage with using smaller inverters is that they are much cheaper and easier to replace. Many find the very small inverters, the type that plugs in the cigarette lighter, for charging their devices and find this to be perfectly adequate.. I have used one in my Jeep for years for the camera charger.Do you plan on running anything larger than a charger? Check the wattage on the largest device you plan on using and buy an inverter twice the size. If the new inverter is larger than the stock inverter, wiring and fusing will most likely need upgrading. Did your LD originally come with a 400-watt inverter? If so, the wiring may not be adequate for a larger inverter. You need to have a good automotive electrician see what is installed before increasing the size over stock.Larry
Re: New 600W Inverter questions Reply #3 – November 05, 2013, 10:34:47 pm Yahoo Message Number: 143473My Xantrex 1000 watt inverter routinely draws 90-100 amps when running a toaster, espresso machine, waffle iron, or coffee pot, so a 100 A fuse is definitely too small. I use a 150 A fuse and cables to match it.Eric Greenwellolder_fossil wrote, On 11/5/2013 8:17 AM:
