Shocked!!  I'm shocked I tell you.
I can't believe what a great motorhome my new–to-me 1992 22' Twin/King is.  To think a 21 year old unit could be this solid, tight, quiet and comfortable is amazing – simply amazing.
About 9 months ago, I decided to finally retire and I started buying retirement stuff.
First came my wood shop.  I built a standalone 20'x20' shop.  I like old things, so I outfitted my shop with a 1959 Oliver band saw, a 1956 DeWalt radial arm saw and a 1936 Delta drill press.  Did I mention I like old things?
Then came the 1952 28' Herreshoff wooden cruising sailboat.  A little rough, but after my wife and I restored it we're ready to go cruising on our water bound motorhome.
And finally, we needed a motorhome to take on land to warmer climes for the winter.  We love Northern Michigan, but as we get older, it seems as though Northern Michigan has gotten colder.
I did a lot of research.  We had a 31' Bounder that was way too big for the two of us.  It was great with 6 kids, but we needed to down size.  We're both accomplished wilderness campers and wanted a motorhome with a solar array for boon docking.  We wanted quality and safety.  Did I mention I like old things?  I was all set to buy a 70's or 80's motorhome.  My trusted mechanic, however, talked me out of that by telling me to do myself a favor and get something with electronic fuel injection.  He can work on carbs, but he said it's getting harder to find those who can, and parts are often problematic.
So, what did we get – a 1992 Lazy Daze 22' Twin/King.  It hit all my buttons.  It's small and easy to drive.  It's got those great windows in the back.  It's got a better galley then my Bounder had.  I was a little nervous about the size of the head, but that has worked out fine.  The unit has two 100 watt solar panels with four 6 volt batteries with just over 400 amp hours storage.  As far as quality and value, I joined RV Consumer's Group and found out that a class C is much safer than my previous class A, and of all the class C's, Lazy Daze is probably the best quality and safest.
When I saw the mileage charts for 22' Lazy Daze, I knew I was in for poor mileage.  My Bounder got around 7 MPG and I thought I would probably get 8-8.5 with the Lazy Daze.  I like to take my time and rarely go over 55 when I'm on vacation.  To my great surprise, I picked the Lazy Daze up in Denver and drove the 1,404 miles home to Northern Michigan averaging 10.3 MPG.  This included two days getting 11 MPG.  What a pleasant surprise.
As you all know, you can't do better than to buy a Lazy Daze.  Thanks to all of you who have given me great advice while I looked for a motorhome.  I didn't post much, but I read everything on this site and you all are a wealth of knowledge.

Glad you took our advice and bought a new enough LD to have an overdrive transmission and fuel injection. These two items will gain you at least 2 MPG over the older models.
Just make sure to keep the rig well sealed. The roof, windows and caps are prone to leakage.
Sound like you have a busy retirement planned and have the right toys to keep you occupied.
