Cover/Insulator for the escape hatch?
Yahoo Message Number: 141940
I want to possibly make (or purchase) a removable interior cover/insulator for the escape hatch over the bunk in my '95TK.
The aluminum frames condensates so I need to make it out of an absorbable material.
Also...for the 14x14 Fan-Tastic vent I am considering the Camco "pillow" cover. Any have one and do they hold in what appears to be a relatively shallow depth?

If you prevent warm, humid air from reaching that aluminum frame, then condensation won't occur. Your first step should be to call the Lazy Daze factory and ask whether they still have the snap-on insulated vinyl cover for that escape hatch. If they do, your problem's solved.
If not, it's easy to make your own. Get a yard or two of vinyl upholstery fabric--the kind used to make seat covers for boats:
 http://www.amazon.com/Marine-Vinyl-Brite-White-Fabric/dp/B0046VACSE/ref=pd_sim_sbs_misc_2

Cut a piece big enough to cover the escape hatch and its aluminum frame, plus a 1" hem allowance all around. Double over the edges and sew. Easy! Then add a big snap at each corner, and a 2" strip of Velcro at the center of each edge to prevent sagging. You custom vent cover won't be quite as good as Lazy Daze's--theirs has a backing of 1/4" polyurethane foam for extra insulation--but it'll be good enough.
While you're at it, you might want to make a similar cover for the inside of your shower skylight, assuming your rig has one. I did that, and it really helps on extra-hot summer days.

I used them for a couple of years. They work OK, but are bulky to store (unless, of course, you use them as pillows). The secret to them staying in place is that you put a small piece or two of hook-type Velcro on each vertical inside surface of the vent opening. The tiny hooks grab onto the pillow's curly fake lambswool material and hold it securely.
In the long run, I found that I preferred the factory's snap-on insulated vinyl vent covers, as mentioned in a recent post, so I ended up giving away the Camco cushions. But it's a matter of personal preference, I think.

When purchasing accessories from Lazy Daze...do the ship or is a trip to the factory necessary?

thanks

They ship, but because they don't accept credit cards, you must first call them to find out what the price will be (including postage), and then mail them a check. When they get the check, then they'll ship.

If you need something quickly they will ship C.O.D. but you will incur extra charges.

"No credit card. No PayPal online store. Weird."
Well, it's certainly less convenient for us customers. On the other hand... Lazy Daze has no dealers, does almost no advertising, goes to only one RV show a year (and only because it's practically in their back yard), refuses to build coaches with slideouts even though every other RV maker does... and still has a six-month waiting list. They've been doing things this way for 57 years. Now if you were in their shoes, how eager would you be to change your way of doing business? ;-)

Recently I lost a rear wheel cover somewhere in the midwest and needed a quick replacement shipped to a friend in Michigan whom we were going to visit. I asked LD if we could wire transfer the funds from our bank to theirs and that was acceptable to LD.  Our bank doesn't charge for that service and the transaction was done in two hours. LD shipped immediately the same day and we received the cover when we arrived at our friend's home.

They may change when they run out of carbon paper receipts.
Maybe.

LOL...I remember when we visited the factory a few years ago. It was like going back in time. There is a certain charm to it.

Made a comment to that effect to Vicki a while back. She just smiled and said "not likely". My guess is that Ed found a good deal on carbon paper and bought a ton of the stuff - probably the same place he got the generator fuel line :-)
