ROLL UP SHADES July 31, 2013, 01:24:04 pm Yahoo Message Number: 141641The roll up shades on our '91, 27' RB are in need of new hardware. The spring and clutch mechanism seems to be worn out as the spring disengages and spins inside the tube. Very frustrating. I was wondering if hardware is available for these shades? I called the mother ship and they had no solution. I tried Home Depot and their suppliers (Levolor) tube size was too large and had no springs to fit. Any body have any ideas? The shade material is fine and I can change it out if I can find replacement hardware. Thanks in advance. Dale from Downey.
Re: ROLL UP SHADES Reply #1 – July 31, 2013, 03:59:02 pm Yahoo Message Number: 141650After buying a replacement shade and having the same problem, we have removed the shade and keep it stored in an overhead cabinet. We rarely unroll it and put in on the door but it is available in case we need it in close quarters situations. With the tinted door window you can't see inside unless there is a strong inside light source so you could try different scenarios during day and night time to see if you are comfortable with them.Bob / eltonsdad PS: Another solution is to install a shade or set of curtains on the door (as opposed to the door frame). Has anyone done this?

Has anyone done this?" No, but I was able to get a cordless cellular blind custom-sized at Lowe's, and used that to replace the roll-up blind on the door. The original roll-up blind didn't go to waste, though. I mounted it horizontally inside the frame of the shower skylight (a perfect fit on my midbath), and use it on very hot days to keep the bathroom from overheating. However, this doesn't answer Dale's question, which was where to get replacement parts for *all* the roller blinds in his 1997 rig. Anybody else have an idea?Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/

Has anyone done this? ~~~~~~~~~ After repeated issues with my door shade, I removed it for good. In its place I installed a rubber-tipped tension rod, "cafe-curtain-style," about 1/2" diameter, *above* the door frame and draped a doubled-over, non-transparent scarf over the rod. When I want a clear view, I scoop up the end of the scarf, roll it up and tuck it into the little recessed shelf above the door. A sheet, towel, curtain remnant would work just as well.Lorna, Oregon Coast made2wander.blogspot.com

And I want to reassure you that my window is very top drawer...covered with a long cashmere scarf in my favorite color that my sister brought me from Nova Scotia. Other folks might not be so lucky. Dale I doubt if the parts you need are available, most likely they were manufactured by or for the OEM. I have never run across these parts in any of the hundreds of catalogs I have viewed. Two ideas. Take the shade apart and see if the clutch can be repaired by filing the ratchet so it catches again, it's a long shot but it might work. Other possibility is to use a single RV roll up shade. Last October, at the Pomona RV show, we saw the MCD dual shades. I thought their dual shade depth was too deep to fit under the standard valances. They do sell a single, light proof shade and that may fit your application. Contact them and see if they will provide dimensional specifications. http://mcdinnovations.com/ Our old 1983 LD had roll up shades and I preferred them to the pleated shades, used in the newer models. They offer more privacy. Through our 2003 LD's pleated shade's string holes, when down, you can see a restricted view of the interior, when viewed form the outside at night. The view increases as the shades age and the string holes slowly get larger through wear.Larry
Re: ROLL UP SHADES Reply #8 – August 01, 2013, 02:51:03 pm Yahoo Message Number: 141685Thanks Larry, I will contact MCD, even tho i am sure they are pricey. As you know, my restrictions are the spacing between the rolled up shade and the valence. The material on the 1" tube is about twice the length that is needed to cover the window. The 1" tube is hard to find in the required 69" length. So, I could go with a larger diameter tube and cut down the amount of material to compensate for the space constrictions I have. What have others done when their old shades have come to the end of their life? Better yet, is there anyone out there that has a set of old shades that I could buy? '91, 27' RB. Dale from Downey.
