Water pump out
Yahoo Message Number: 137903
On a recent outing, I mistakenly hooked the city water supply to the coach without a pressure regulator.  It only took me a few minutes to correct the mistake and thought all was well.  Next time I tried the water pump, it would not turn on.  I checked to make sure it was getting current...pump light is on, the fuse is OK, so I put a voltage-meter right on the leads to the pump and it showed OK.  The Shurflo manual says it can withstand city water pressure, but the timing of all this is suspicious.  I imagine I will have to replace the pump, but thought I should ask if anyone has any insight on anything else to check.  It's a '91 model I have had since new, but very light use over the years.  Anybody have any suggestions?

Overpressure at the city water would be more likely to blow a plumbing fitting than damage the pump. If this is the original pump in the rig, try shorting across the terminals of the pump pressure sensor. If the pump still doesn't run, the motor may be locked from a bad bearing. If it does, you will need to repair or rebuild the pressure switch. If you can't do that, then either way it will be time for a new pump.

Hi, aq433 if your pump is original, vintage 1991, replace it! My pump was still functional but started to weep at the pump housing from internal corrosion. It is not located in a place where i could see it, and was quite a while before I noticed it was seeping, lots of mold etc resulted eventually I had wet carpet while parked on a slope. I would bet it's just a matter of days before your pump fails to hold water.

Steve has a 2004 FL.
Not sure if it has been replaced yet but, either way, carrying a spare pump is a good idea, especially if you camp away from civilization.
The lifespan of modern water pumps can be very short.
A bad water pump can put a crimp into your lifestyle.

The original water pump on Steve's rig died on me in January 2012 and I replaced it with a Revolution 4008 unit just prior to selling the rig to Steve.

John, the pump you put in is still working fine. Unfortunately, someone posted on this thread mistaking my reply as that of the OP.
