Is there a reason?
Yahoo Message Number: 137737
I have a question for the group. I have been on the look out for a well loved Lazy Daze for quite some time now and I am interested in the years  2002 to 2004 mid-bath. What I have seen online on the various RV "for sale" sites are LOTS of 2001(all floor plans). Is there a reason why this year is commonly seen for sale?

Interesting; I have no idea. I just looked at three big RV classified websites and saw only a couple of 2001s, and there are no 2001s in the For Sale file on this message board. The remaining listings were for everything from 80s to 2010 and 2011 rigs. (The listings for newer rigs surprised me a bit, but rigs come up for sale for all sorts of reasons.)
Also, if you're limiting your searches to 2002-2004 Mid-baths on the classified sites, I wonder why 2001s are getting into the mix? Maybe because the sale site doesn't offer efficient filtering? Others will surely comment on this; good luck in your search.

In 2003, LD started installing the true dual-pane windows.
2001 models have no known major problems unique to them.
Our 2003 model has had no major problems.
Keep looking, the search can take many months, not many of any one particular model were built in any year.
Mid-baths are the most popular model overall.

I would label it a coincidence. There weren't many changes made from the late 90's to 2002 (minor ones if any), so the fact that you see lots of 2001's is probably just a fluke. Just like the previous post said, 2003 changed the glass in the windows from a laminate to a true dual pane, which has its pros and cons just like laminate.
Our search took us about 12 months to find the perfect one, a 2001 Rear bath, Red in color. We actually ended up finding ours on Ebay, but I was skeptical because it was priced so low. I won the auction, but contacted the seller and chose to meet in person before giving any sort of deposit. I had a relative in the same town (also a LD owner) go check it out before I made the six hour drive to see it myself with cash in hand. Turned out great. The way I looked was through a website called searchtempest.com. It searches thousands of sites for you, but most importantly, it searches all areas of craigslist. Worked out great for me.

Good luck in your search.

We'll I can tell you there is one less 2001 on the market as of a few days ago as I just purchase one.:)    Nothing wrong with a 2001 so I'd expand that search to 2001-2004.  One thing I really like is how older models years look like the most current offering.
I'd focus on condition for the range of years you are interested.  I'm sure there are 2001's in better shape than 2004 that has lots of miles and driven hard or not maintained.  I'm sure you know this but I go for condition first and the model year second.

As others have pointed out, there's nothing *wrong* with a 2001 Lazy Daze... but 2002 brought the much quieter Onan MicroQuiet generator--a major advantage, in my humble opinion--and 2003 brought Thermopane-style insulated windows--not a huge advantage, but nice to have.

Yes my 01 has the old V-Twin Emerald 4000 plus generator. Sometimes I wish for the quieter model. But other than exercising it once a month I don't run it much. There is an upside to the older Emerald model. Because it's a twin cylinder design vs. single like the MicroQuiet it turns less RPM to carry the same load which extends engine life. One experienced member of this group told me I would see up to twice as many hr.s before a rebuild is required. Also I have heard the MicroQuiet doesn't have an oil filter like the Emerald, although I have never inspected one to find out.

Hi Martha,

I know where there's a 2003 silver mid-bath with blue interior that hasn't officially put on the market yet. It's a high miler, (over 118,000 impeccably maintained miles) that is in great shape. The current owner is looking for a newer mid-bath himself.
I suspect that a lot of the preferred rigs (hint midbaths) get sold this way. Folks just seem to want them as there is not much else in the RV world that is like a midbath.

Let me know if you're interested.

Sorry, I mush have added the miles I dreamt I was driving last year. The mileage of this creampuff is only 108,500.

Raj

I have never seen an LD for rent. Most are too personalized and prized to rent to a stranger.
Not all is lost.  To experience RV living, there are many RV rental outfits. Try finding one in a similar size and floor plan to the one you are considering. It will not be an LD but it will let you experience the RV lifestyle.
Try to rent one for a week or more, long enough to get through the infatuation stage. Many folks find it isn't what they hoped for and others...well, we are nuts about it!

Good luck in your quest.

AFAIK, no rental agencies rent Lazy Dazes; you'd have to find a private owner willing to make a rental deal, and I am pretty sure that those are very few and far between! ;-)  However, who knows? Good luck!

I forgot

What are the other 2 Class Cs that get 5 stars ?

Born Free ?? and ??

Interesting discussion last few days. For them I got this: For those of us who cannot buy a new or even an almost new model

"A sweet spot of 10 to 15 years", this would make it 1998 to 2003

and I believe someone said the 89-91 range (for all costs)

I have been looking at the 89+ range because of fuel injection.

Been enjoying this discussion, I think it started with Chev vs Ford

I have heard there is some Rental company in Marin county which does rent Lazy Daze. I am unable to get any contact information. Google is also of no help.

Roger,
The other 5 star class-C is a Coach House Platinum.  Great rigs from what I've seen, but cost like parts of them are made of platinum.
I'm kidding about the platinum, but they are "high end", i.e. have Corian(tm) countertops and definitely no bed over the cab.

Thanks everyone who has replied to this post. I guess it is a coincidence that there are a number of 2001's out there on the market. I just found it odd.
The way I do my search is I use either google search or yahoo search and I type in Lazy Daze for sale and go to the various sites from there. I do not put specific years in my search although I have tried that. I too am amazed at how many "new" Lazy Daze are for sale, it just makes me drool, but the reason why I choose to start with 2002 is like Andy mentioned is the Onan MicroQuiet generator. I have to confess that earlier this year I did look at a 2001 midbath and the sound of the generator was very loud which was a big turn off for me(although that's not the only reason why I didn't buy that rig)... I will be traveling with dogs and will probably be using the generator often and I know hearing the roaring of the Emerald would bother me. I plan to retire in the near future so my search for a Lazy Daze has begun, although I have been "looking" for quite some time out of habit since I sold my 1987 Multiplan around 7 years ago. My plan is to full time in my rig and I'm looking forward to meeting all of you who are out there. Happy Trails

You might also try typing "Lazy Days" into your search field just for kicks. Believe it or not, that's how we found our 1999 MB. Camping World

There is what looks to be a "Minnie Winnie" on a Mercedes chassis that has "Lazy Days" on the back.

There is a dealership network named "Lazy Days".  When I first started looking it gave me fits.  First I was typing the name wrong, then the computer kept correcting the correct name.  The RV and the dealership have nothing in common other than the homophone.

I just looked them up recently because briefly we were mad because our new LD has been delayed for over a month but then decided that our new LD is worth waiting for.  Anyway, for what it's worth, here's what I found:
