just a shout out..good news!

Got my new "Kozy Comfort" catalytic heater installed yesterday, just in time for a nasty cold wet storm here in Casa Grande, and it works WONDERFULLY! [98' 30ft IB]
Took the inside temp from 56 degrees to 65 in about five minutes--on it's lowest setting! It goes up to 10,000BTUs, w/five settings, has a thermostat and safety low oxygen sensor...auto ignite. I have never experienced a Camco unit, so I have no idea how it compares, but this one ROCKS! From what i can tell, it is a fair amount less expensive than the 3,000BTU model..???

No, I don't own stock, nor do I do installs...grin...just really excited about having this in CHERRYOTTE!! She's just about 100% and as soon as I get the back up camera working again, we can travel! It's been eight months of hurry-up-and-wait so yes...I can't wait!

Hope to meet some of you on down the road!

I need to make one correction--it's a "KOZY WORLD" not Kozy Comfort..it's model #122...Amazon has it listed at $142 and change now, of course--it's on sale I think??. Sorry, it IS made in China...sigh

He charged me $185 for the unit, and an additional $64 for the extra parts. That's still substantially less than the Camco models i was looking at, and it produces much higher BTU ranges...the ones I was looking at were only 3,000 BTUs...??
The person who did the install charges $85/hr. and it didn't take him more than an hour, hr. and a half. I had other things done so i don't have a specific break down of the labor costs. Again, it was an *easy* install on the 30ft IB...don't know how it would be for different floor models. He has installed a lot of these, and all that i talked to [in the SKPE Park in Casa Grande] love them and swear by them...everything from shorties to the BIG rigs...those often have two installed.

It is mounted six/seven inches from the outside wall of the stove, down from the window about a foot, ten or so inches from the center table console, and about 8/10 inches off the floor, on the driver's side in the front galley. Perfect fit, and is centrally located for good heat convection. There was no heating up of adjacent materials to speak of with that clearance.

I keep the overhead vent right above it cracked, and the fantastic fan in the bedroom cracked for ventilation---mounted the CO2 detector next to the frig as you head to the bedroom, about mid-height, as my head level in the bed is about the same.
Andy, it has five different settings via the thermostat, and it has a very healthy wire guard to protect the "bricks" that the propane heats up...I'm not sure quite what the operating temps are, but when i used it, it was not that hot. I have a Black Cat Coleman catalytic 3000 btu unit, and it isn't any hotter than it was. It radiates heat just about the same at the first setting...each setting has a 'high" and a 'low' range...from what i experienced, I'll probably never need to use it much past the "1". I sat with my feet propped up on a little stool right in front of it and it felt wonderful.

Just like the Camco, you must keep it clean and free of hair and lint, and animals must be taken into account if you have them around either unit. Safety issues seems to be the same for both.

As for ventilation, from what I've read ALL catalytic heaters must have air flow to be safe. Not sure why you think this is any more dangerous to use..?  I did a LOT of research, read a LOT of reviews...none had anything bad to say or report, and most were glowing referrals..?
As always, to each his/her own...:-)...but i have to say, I LOVE this thing...

Gini, as Andy pointed out, this is NOT a catalytic heater, and does not claim to be. Catalytic heaters burn the fuel at a a much lower temperature that open-flame combustion, and quality models like the Olympian have a large surface area for the slow combustion - assuring the fuel is completely oxidized - producing only CO2 and H2O, no carbon monoxide.
Any open-combustion, non-vented process requires ventilation to prevent the build-up of CO2, but your heater will poison you before it asphyxiates. Properly ventilating 30000 BTU/hr of burn will probably only be safely accomplished with vent wide open and the fan running. If you use the lowest setting, you might get away with a smaller vent opening, but carbon monoxide will remain a danger not present with catalytic heaters. Does this unit have UL approval?
