Fiamma replacement awnings
Yahoo Message Number: 136786
Has anyone replaced their own awning by ordering directly from the mfr.  Can two moderately non-mechanical guys handle this chore?  Do the new ones fit the coach mounted brackets on a 30' 1999 LD?

Based on my experience of installing a 14' Fiamma it is an easy job for 2 people. You will need to screw on the new mounting brackets that come with the new awning. The awning is heavy so I suggest that you have a third ladder to set the awning on while you and your helper climb into a comfortable position for the final lift. Also be sure to plug up the old mounting holes with sealant before mounting the new awning. Lutz

JG (is that your name?), I am in the process of doing just that on our '02 30' because the original awning was destroyed in a wind gust. Fortunately, the 3 mounting brackets were not destroyed (i.e., not ripped from the side of the LD) so I am able to reuse them. The damaged awning fabric was cut off at the roller and thrown away. Then it's a simple matter of removing 3 screws each at the bottom of the  3 L brackets and 3 screws, one in each bracket, that go through the back of the bracket through the awning casement into the side of the LD, hopefully into the blocking provided by the factory. After screw removal, two people on step ladders can easily lift the awning casement off the brackets.
I emailed Fiamma, told them what I had originally, and asked what would be the replacement. The rep responded and the replacement is within one inch in length of the original and he said I could reuse the existing brackets. I checked with Vince at LD and he said LDs are painted after the awnings are installed which means if/when you take the awning casement off there will be an unpainted strip of primer. This was the case with my '02; not sure if it would be the same with a '99.
I was quoted replacement cost of $1130 plus about $200 shipping to Denver for white awning (casement) 06280G01(X) F45S 14'8". X is where one would add the number of the fabric color desired. I will be ordering this soon and am confident that with 1 or 2 others we can easily place the awning on existing brackets and screw it down.

Please contact me if you have other questions.

Thanks Chris,
I've ordered the same after having an RV store quote $1750.00 for awning and installation in Savannah, GA.  This is the second awning for me as I was camping on the beach in 2002 watching a Ga-LSU game on the patio when a squall blew up--saved a $100 TV and paid RV store $2000 to replace awning--dumb priority.
